My hidden blades are up here!

It’s safe to say that we’re all highly excited for Assassin’s Creed 3, which features the tomahawk=heavy adventures of a new hero, Connor. While he still appears to be a bit of a cipher at present, we’ll probably learn more about him when the game launches in October, and see how he differs in personality from previous assassins such as Altair and Ezio.

But while Connor may be our hero for AC3, it is kind of disappointing that we have yet to experience an animus hop through the eyes of a female assassin, as there have been plenty of them throughout the history of Assassin’s Creed. Just look at Assassin’s Creed Embers for proof.

Creative Director Alex Hutchinson was recently asked this question, to which he replied about how such an idea would not have fitted in during the period of unrest in AC3.

“It’s always up in the air. I think lots of people want it,” Hutchinson said, but then he indicated that the latest title would not be the one to have such a character.

In this period it’s been a bit of a pain. The history of the American Revolution is the history of men. There are a few people, like John Adams’ wife. They tried very hard in the TV series to not make it look like a bunch of dudes, but it really is a bunch of dudes.

It felt like, if you had all these men in every scene and [a female assassin is] secretly, stealthily in crowds of dudes, it starts to feel kind of wrong. People would stop believing it.

Sadly, it does make perfect sense, and even Ubisoft can only go so far with a creative license before things become a little too fantastical. But hey, at least we can still play as killers of the opposite sex in the multiplayer, right?

Dammit, I just want to throat-kick a dagger into an enemy like Shao Jun did in Embers…
