Are these the Wii U’s launch games?

WiiU

Retailers tend to receive information from platform holders and software publishers well in advance of the rest of us, to help them plan their marketing and stock allocations. Occasionally, that express information leads to leaks, as we’ve recently seen with our own BT Games…once or twice.

UK retailer Blockbuster has done something similar – leaking a list of possible Wii U launch titles.

GoNintendo has a list of 25 games pilfered from the retailer’s internal database, giving a glimpse of the games that could launch alongside Nintendo’s new console, the Wii U – due later this year. Many of the titles have already been announced – adding a dash of credence to the list, but there are a few that seem to be prematurely revealed.

Here’s the list :

  • Aliens: Colonial Marines
  • Assassin’s Creed
  • Batman: Arkham City
  • Darksiders II
  • Dirt 3
  • Formula 1 All Stars
  • Game Party
  • Ghost Recon Online
  • Just Dance 4
  • Killer Freaks from Outer Space
  • Marvel Super Heroes
  • Metro: Last Light
  • Monsters Party
  • New Super Mario Brothers Wii
  • Ninja Gaiden 3
  • Pikmin
  • Rabbids Party Land
  • Raving Rabbids
  • Rayman Legends
  • Shield Pose
  • Splinter Cell 5
  • Sports Connection
  • Tekken
  • Your Shape 2013
  • Zombie

Anything in there that makes you want to grab a Wii U? I’m tickled by the thought of a new Pikmin and New Super Mario Bros – but those are the sort of first party titles that generally sell Nintendo systems and are wholly expected. Killer Freaks from Outer Space, a Ubisoft title, has me intrigued. When played in multiplayer, one player uses a traditional controller and plays the game as a FPS – while the other, using the Tablet controller, plays something more akin to an RTS or tower defense game. Other than that, and a few obvious party-type games, there’s not too much there that excites me that won’t be available on other platforms. Wait..what’s Rayman Legends? Oh. Well that looks quite nice.

What games would the Wii U need to convince you?
