Queue the scary music! There’s a rare bug in Assassin’s Creed III that has been wiping gamers’ save data. Needless to say that this tragedy needs to be avoided, so here are the details.
Kotaku reports that the bug is wiping the data under certain circumstances when downloading the Hidden Secrets pack, the game’s new DLC. For the majority of players there has been no trouble, for some however, when they tried downloading the DLC while playing the game has been a disaster. Ubisoft has responded and they are working on a fix!
“Just a quick heads up, we’re able to reproduce this issue at the studio and are working on a fix/workaround.
From what we can tell, this problem seems to be rare and should generally only affect a very small number of players. That said, we’re taking the speedy and complete resolution of this very seriously.
AVOIDING THIS BUG: Do not load your saved AC3 game while the DLC is downloading in the background. This appears to be the key trigger for this bug. You can do anything else you want to do, just don’t load up your saved game and play it while the DLC is downloading.”
This isn’t the only save data problem with a Ubisoft game, there have been many posts on the Unisoft forums, where Far Cry 3 players have lost 10 – 20 hours of gameplay. I imagine them screaming like Frankenstein’s monster in Van Helsing: “WHYYYY WHYYYYYYYYYY?” I don’t know what the solution there is yet, but gamers have been helping each other out, saying what worked for them. So if you have that problem, just check the Ubiforums.
