Just a week ago, Sony announced it had sold a million PlayStation 4’s on day one of retail availability. Many suspected Microsoft’s apparently weaker console, beleaguered as it is with the backlash of the whole DRM controversy, might not do as well. It has.
Microsoft has announced it too has sold a million consoles on its first day in stores, matching Sony’s impressive numbers.
“We are humbled and grateful for the excitement of Xbox fans around the world,” said Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President of marketing and strategy. “Seeing thousands of excited fans lined up to get their Xbox One and their love for gaming was truly a special moment for everyone on the Xbox team. We are working hard to create more Xbox One consoles and look forward to fulfilling holiday gift wishes this season.”
They also released a number of stats pertaining to its first party titles. Because they are tracking you, you know.
- Over 60 million zombies have been killed in Dead Rising 3
- Over 3.6 million miles were driven in Forza Motorsport 5
- Over 7.1 million combos were pulled off in Killer Instinct
- Over 8.5 million enemies have been defeated in Ryse: Son of Rome
- Over 43.3 million Fit Points were earned in Xbox Fitness
There is one key difference though. Sony’s million consoles were based off of day one sales in North America alone, while Microsoft’s are over all 13 regions where the console launched. So the Xbox One hasn’t yet matched PlayStation 4’s numbers – but it’s doing just fine. consoles, despite suggestion to the contrary, aren’t dead just yet.

The way things are going, this console war is gonna get real interesting when the “Must Have” games come out, second son is already gonna be one of those… Will Forza 5 make people want to take the plunge, or will they wait for something better… Time will tell. On the bright side for Ms seems they had alot less failures than even ps4’s under 1% failure rate… unless we just don’t hear about those issues..

From what I was reading earlier it seems they’re having a few problems with faulty disk drives. So there doesn’t seem to be much difference in failure rates between the two.

I did when it happened to me – my drive tried to eat my GTA SA disk. It was so badly scratched that the game wouldn’t launch, but weirdly enough I could make an image of the disk. Hooray for no-CD patches.

Had a similar problem this weekend when my son started Injustice (X360). Disk keeps crashing on one console even with an install but works on the other. Problem is he doesn’t have his Live profile on the alternate one.

People are too sensitive especially with Sony little chirp last week. “I like to thank you the fans and my mom” makes for boring news.
Would have a lot better with Major Nelson scheduling a news conference, walking up and exclaiming “Sony. 1 million. Succck itttt!!!!” and then busting a few moves out.

I will fight over the games itself, but fighting over consoles is just pointless. I understand we have a preference but to choose one console over an other because of dislike is just dumb. If I had that attitude I would never have been blessed to play Ni No Kuni or The Last of Us on PS3 or Lost Odyssey and Crackdown on Xbox 360 , and so on.
I do wish we could all get along too

After doing much reading across various games between the X1 and PS4, you get the feeling that the next-gen is a farce right now. Games are being capped at 30fps just to keep up with Full HD. This is not the generation leap we expected. Not just yet at least.

Now the long haul kicks in for some decent games to warrant the purchase of either console. Only Forza 5 and Resogun interest me so far (inFamous 3 when released as well) but 7-odd k effectively per game atm is not what I would call a smart purchase.
