343 apologises for Halo matchmaking issues

Right now, even after a massive patch, Halo: The Master Chief Collection doesn’t give players the multiplayer experience they want. Its matchmaking seldom works, and even when it does, the game often lags to the point of being unplayable. It’s quite obviously not the situation Microsoft or its Halo factory 343 Industries wanted, and they’re really, really sorry.

“We have not delivered the experience you deserve. I personally apologize for this on behalf of us all at 343 Industries. Our team is committed to working around the clock until these issues are resolved,” 343 Industries general manager Bonnie Ross wrote in a letter to the community on Halo Waypoint. “While our team works on continual improvements and towards solutions, my commitment to you is that we will take care of all owners of Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Our primary and continued focus is first on fixing the issues at hand. Once we’ve done that, we will detail how we will make this right with our fans.”

Ross said 343 “encountered unexpected issues” with matchmaking that they didn’t see when they were doing internal testing. Remember, it’s impossible to effectively test this sort of thing.

“Within 343 Industries and Xbox, I can assure you that resolving these issues is our #1 priority. We continue to partner with the Xbox platform team to analyze all data to make ongoing server-side adjustments to continually improve the matchmaking experience,” she added. “Know that we’re trying to be as nimble as possible to put fixes in place. We are planning multiple server-side tweaks and game content updates over the coming weeks,” Ross said, adding that 343 will keep fans abreast of updates.  “Please accept my heartfelt apologies for the delay and for the negative aspects of your experience to date.”

“We’re doing everything in our power to resolve it as quickly as possible,” she concluded.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection really does represent one of the best value packages in all of gaming, giving you four of the most critically acclaimed shooters in one package, all of them given a next-gen overhaul. It’s really quite a pity that it’s all been overshadowed by broken multiplayer.

I bet it’s because they made a typo in their matcxhmaking code. It can happen to anyone.

What you don’t see anymore is the typo that made it even funnier. Damn ninjas & their stealth edits!

Here is a topic for a further investigation @LG team. What goes into matchmaking/online servers and what are the possible reasons for the “breakages.” As a gamer I would like to know the general facts to at least try and understand, after internal testing, the problem persist.

As a consumer I just get irate! Perhaps understanding will make the ire less?

I declare a new phrase for games that are just broken at launch which after weeks and weeks of waiting and useless updates still doesn’t work. That phrase is HaloClub in remembrance of DriveClub and Halo

I am mostly a SP gamer in my old age so I’ve been very happy with it. Need to finish Halo 2 tonight but the Shadow of Mordor seems to have me by the balls atm.

What have we leant about games from this month alone:

A – Games are released broken.
    B – Day 1 patches don’t help broken games.
C – The size of your patch doesn’t matter when you don’t know how to use it.
