Gaming has grown considerably in recent years, standing proudly side by side with the big brother movie and music industries. And while they have their Oscars and Grammies, the one night where the majority of gamers can sit down and revel in the festivities, is the annual Video Game Awards that is normally held on Spike TV.

It’s a more frivolous and carefree event, embracing the fun that gaming represents, instead of the usual boring and sombre moments of other awards shows. Here’s a look at the nominees for the best of the best that 2011 had to offer.
