You can go beyond your level 100 stats in Pokémon Sun and Moon

Pokémon has always had a limitation in just how high up you can challenge the pocket monster in your pocket. Unless you use TM Viagra. HEYOOOOOOH! As for the actual critters you’ve just caught, they’ve always capped out at level 100. It’s an RPG staple, and one that has always worked well for trainers. Especially when you consider that people tweens out into the wild to catch creatures that have the ability to warp reality itself or change the weather system of an entire planet.

That’s like giving Batman a Yellow Lantern ring. Again. Anyway, said limit is sort of being demolished in Pokémon Sun and Moon, as trainers will now be able to go even further beyond, presumably while screaming about your new ascended Super EV status. Said feature comes in the form of Hyper training, so get hype son. Hyper Training will unlock for your Pokemon once they’ve reached the level 100 barrier, allowing you to further boost their six IV base stats: HP,Attack,Defense,Special Attack, Special Defense and Speed to a new maximum

Such training has been featured in previous Pokémon games before, but to reach those results usually took many days, weeks or even months to perfect. “Traditionally, Pokémon grow stronger by raising their levels and increasing their base stats, however, such power is still affected by the individual strengths innate to each Pokémon,” Nintendo said in a press release which I copied and pasted more from below.

Hyper training allows Pokemon that have grown to Lv. 100 to increase their individual strengths, which has not been possible in previous Pokemon games. You can now make your Lv. 100 Pokemon even stronger. Hyper training is done by Mr. Hyper, a new character who can be found somewhere in the Alola region. By using Bottle Caps, a new item which is obtainable in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, players will be able to carry out Hyper Training on their Pokemon.

The mythical Pokemon Magearna, which is planned for distribution in North America later this year, will be distributed with a Bottle Cap held item.

So what’s the point of Hyper Training then? For anyone who wants more out of Pokémon Sun and Moon than just mere collecting, competitive play is where it’s at. Battles between actual people and their pocket monsters rely heavily on edging out the best possible stats that they can. Doing so requires careful training, breeding and creating a pedigree of a Pokemon to maximise these values. Hyper training then, will cut a lot of the fat out from this more traditional method of being the very best there ever was.

Is this for IV or EV stats?

If it’s for IV I’d love to know how that’s going to work. Will you be able to go beyond the 31 IV limit on each stat?

I actually enjoyed breeding Pokemon for IV and then EV training them.

But having Pokemon IV increases without having to breed them will be EPIC.

As long as you can’t go over the 31 limit however otherwise none of the Pokemon you send across to the new gen to Hyper train will be transferable back to older gen games.

I also enjoyed breeding my whole team from eggs and keeping spreadsheets on what IV’s is maxed and how far EV training is.
