Fans angry over Quantum Break on PC

In probably the least surprising, but nevertheless exciting, news of yesterday, Microsoft officially confirmed that their once Xbox One exclusive had now joined the ranks of their new sales plan. Quantum Break is now simply a Windows exclusive, and is coming to PC along with the Xbox One. It’s a strategy that Microsoft seems to be employing with all of their first-party exclusives, increasing their potential market while still only supporting their own products

And just as unsurprising as the announcement itself, people are pissed. Namely Xbox One fans.

Deciding to be a sport and actually engage with fans on a social level, Xbox Head Phil Spencer opened up his Twitter to address fan concerns of the announcement. Concerns being a redundant term here, considering that there shouldn’t really be an issue with a game now being made available to more players. And yet, Spencer was met with hostilities such as this:

The argument further derails from there, with multiple “fans” claiming that Microsoft is betraying their console audience by making them pay more for a sub-par experience (apparently in mathematics a annual Xbox Live fee is enough to outweigh the colossal fee of actually gaming on PC). And aside from the ridiculousness of that statement alone, there’s really little reason for anyone to be upset here.

The prevailing argument is that Microsoft, through these actions, is making the Xbox One less attractive – which is perhaps true for a very small subset of gamers. These are gamers who are able to afford the maintenance of a gaming PC, as well as a single console. That pushes out a large majority, with the idea of purchasing both consoles instead actually making even more sense. So in truth, how many people is it really negatively affecting? Well none really.

Gears of War 4 is also coming to PC

Microsoft isn’t aiming to compete with itself here. They’ve long expressed interest in unifying their platforms under the Windows banner, and all it really does is give them more people to target with software sales – the bread and butter of this industry. In that space they’re actually just increasing their potential revenue in ways that Nintendo and Sony can only dream of – because you can bet that if either could do the same at this point they probably would.

Having Xbox One exclusives come to PC isn’t impacting the sales potential of the console, because it doesn’t automatically mean everyone with an Xbox One can now afford a PC. If you’re in that space, then great! You suddenly have more buying power in the games market. If not, then you simply go with the platform of your choice.

In the end, Microsoft is still forcing you to buy into one of their ecosystems to play their games. So if you desperately want to play Quantum Break, it’s pretty hard to see how bringing it to PC is negatively impacting that. Entitlement is a confusing thing.

Luckily you wouldn’t need all that much to make a PC run a game, if you spend 15k on a mobo and CPU, you probably have lost your mind, that, or you’re an extreme elitist…

            March 2, 2016 at 00:05

You do realise that what is mentioned above references systems that could be used to start up a game, run it at 1080p and within context refers to someone being clinically insane if they spend that much on a mobo and cpu only with the expectation to run games at 1080p from said mobos onboard card…
If you compete competitively, you need that kind of horsepower from the get go, but even with that said, your average Joe won’t be able to afford that, so if you misinterpreted that bit, please, let me clarify, I was referring to people that’d like to enter the gaming market on a cheap we built and semi future proof build, competitive is something completely different, the four titan X’s in a build like that costs more than the average south Africans house to build…

Sorry, but that’s just stupid. No, it’s beyond stupid. If you’re spending that much money just to play video games… smh. Not saying spending a few grand isn’t smart, but when you start going over 5K, something isn’t right. I spent close to 4K on my rig and it plays every high-end 3D game I’ve thrown at it on max settings without issue. Not sure why one would need to throw away money to go beyond the best.

Well look at it this way. What is Xbox Live really? It’s just user authentication for an online identity, and then on Xbox it allows them to create a paywall for playing MP games. This does exist in Windows 10 because there is an Xbox app with a marketplace that works exactly the same way with user authentication and such. The only difference is the paywall doesn’t exist on that platform.

Not really, no. It depends what games you play. For me, Witcher 3, Dragon Age, Mordor and the like were all bought at a high purchase price AND ran no problem.

And my pc is my entire entertainment system in my house, plus I can do work on it.

The benefit of console is not having to worry about hardware, all games are guaranteed to work and playing from the couch is optimized for a TV experience. The only improvements are from the developers/publishers expense.

The benefit of a PC is knowing that you can always improve and make things even better through your own expense.

Its like the arguement of do you drive yourself to where you want to go or do you a transit system. One has a little more control involved, the other is just about ease and relaxing.

Console gamers can buy used games and re-sell them at the same cost they bought them at. You can easily game for almost free on a console. Add in the fact that consoles require zero hardware upgrades ever, and console gaming is always cheaper in the long run.

Well, just recently I did decide that what my family really, really needed was a family car that is a 3 litre v6 (Diesel, yes I know). I suppose, if I am honest, that was not needed for the family. But I like it a lot, so there is how I satisfied the family need for reliable, long distance transport AND keep it fun to drive for me.

I think also we become a bit like a “martyr” at certain points in our lives, we men. Sort of like, no, that is for the family, I do not really get me toys any more, cause family needs come first. Ah, hell, life is complex and no single concept or explanation covers such situation.s

You want to know the no1. reason they are pissed? Because people who own a PS4 and a PC can now partake in their precious exclusives. It’s a fanboy thing. Simple as that.

Sony gave up some exclusives too to the PC. Final Fantasy is one big one….. Honestly I believe the thing keeping consoles alive is exclusivity, why bother buying a console when you can play the game on a PC. True some games are just better played on console like RPG games but then again you can just plug a controller into the PC if you prefer that. And as for space, PC’s in the same console shape and size pack more of a punch these days so you you sue the same space as a console with more graphic fidelity and fps…

Really I’m struggling to see how a console has a valid reason to be bought these days. Perhaps if you’re on a budget, but then again you can build a budget PC just as quickly.

I think a Mid-high tier PC that would cost you about R7k to make would be able to run games fine and if it starts to struggle you can numb down the graphics a bit rather than having to buy a new console.

I would say mid tier starts at R7k, then high at R10k, then very high at R15k and Extreme goes from R20k upwards. I should have said mid-high with the price tag of R7k-R10k…. It’s actually sad how I’m noticing now we have to use a k for our economy where the US and EU guys are still like ehhh 700 non k bruh. Overclocking our currency here.

Still, to the best of my knowledge, only two registered breeders in South Africa.

Why do you like the folds so much? My wife likes the docile, calm nature.

We have had two now (both pedigree) and both played with the shadow of a piece of string rather than the piece of string. We had a Somali, silver coloured, (short haired Abyssinian) as well at some point. The Somali is like a border collie, boundless energy. So we walk, Somali on a leash, Scottish fold just walking (MASSIVE GARDEN, we lived in granny flat). then we stop and sit on some rocks and the toys come out. Both cats played with same toy, Somali with toy and Scottish Fold with the shadows. That was awesome.

They’s done right fucked it up, innit? *snifffffffff* I’s nearly puked in me fish ‘n chips!

Seriously, every other reason you have for buying a console instead of a PC still exists.
      “It’s too complicated!”
      “It’s more expensive!”
      “You always have to upgrade!”
      “The games are all buggy!”
“I can’t just sit down and play!”
“I always have to update Windows!”
      “Viruses!”
All still, however vaguely in some cases, true.

Own an Xbox One and a PC and really couldn’t give a flying f*** if it’s available on both. As long as I can play it, I’m happy… And if you pre-order the Xbone version you get all the Alan Wake games + DLC and a free pc copy of QB so why the tantrums?

This damages console sales. Microsoft dont care because they lost to Sony. They dont care about screwing gamers over (like what happened with Tomb Raider) just so they can sell their spyware OS Win 10.

This article is horseshit, meant to fuel a hidden agenda. One gamer… two gamers… a dozen gamers… don’t reflect the general attitude of this Quantum Break ordeal. Maybe you should put a poll on your article as well. The game can be played on Xbox One or PC with only one purchase, who cares.

Phil Spencer you’re trying to play dumb. By that same logic you should, opt out of the race and put the game on PS4 and Nintendo NX as well. Console exclusively is the lifeblood of the console market

This article headline paints with a very broad brush. Are all Xbox fans “incredibly angry” about this? Hell no. I could give a shit less if Windows/PC gets it. It actually makes sense, because the Xbox One is essentially running Windows 10. It’s the same ecosystem in my eyes.
This article makes it out like all Xbox owners are super butthurt about this, when things couldn’t be further from the truth. It’s a vocal minority. Welcome to the internet.

So one person went out and complained about this and EVERY website says something to the effect of “Xbox fans EXTREMELY UPSET over Quantum break pc version.” IT’S ONE GUY!!!!
One angry butthole represents the millions of Xbox fans? I don’t think so.

A better headline would be: “Xbox fans extremely tired of hack writers copy/pasting stories that are just low brow click-bait.”

These guys that are angry about games going to both platforms do need to chill.

The guys who are wondering if Xbox One will continue to get support are correct. If they don’t sell more systems, the support from Microsoft for Xbox One has a high chance of dropping.

I want my Xbox One to improve, get faster, more stable and get more features. That’s all I care about. As long as the games come out for it as well, this is a non issue.

The problem is that this is Microsoft. They’ve killed more promising products than most companies have even released. So my worries are there, but here’s to hoping they really understand that a low market share doesn’t mean they need to kill their products.

That’s a click-bait title. Here is the accurate version: “A few dozen of the forty-something million Xbox gamers are upset about Quantum Break going from Xbox One-exclusive to Xbox-exclusive.”
