The Xbox One, currently the best current-generation console to play ancient-generation games on. Well grandpa, good news! The library of the Microsoft console is getting bigger today, thanks to ten new games being added to the backwards compatibility library, bringing the total up to 130 games so far. And some of them are even good. Especially if you feel like getting The Witcher 2 for free – which is now available on the SA Marketplace too.
Here’s the list of new arrivals, which are available riiiiiiiiiiiiiight nooooooooow. Unfortunately, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance STILL isn’t on the list:
- Aegis Wing
- Age of Booty
- Counter-Strike Global Offensive
- Jeremy McGrath’s Offroad
- Sam & Max Save the World
- Skullgirls
- Small Arms
- Soulcalibur
- Space Giraffe
- The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
Microsoft also announced that The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings would be free to download until February 5. Word of warning though: Some users have reported issues with getting the download to start, so you might want to do some region-swapping if you’re having trouble. With the latest batch of backwards-compatible games, Microsoft confirmed that last-gen titles would be released “as they become available,” skipping a pre-determined date schedule.
In case you missed it, Microsoft also added 16 other games during December:
- Braid
- Deus Ex: Human Revolution
- Doritos Crash Course
- Fable III
- Halo: Reach
- Hydro Thunder
- Iron Brigade
- Kane & Lynch 2
- Motocross Madness
- Ms. Pac Man
- Peggle
- Portal: Still Alive
- Spelunky
- Splosion Man
- Ticket to Ride
- Zuma’s Revenge
Naturally, I’ve been playing a ton of Kane & Lynch 2, an act which has single-handidly increased cleaning supplies sales in my area by 3176%. Right now however, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is still the single most requested game on the Xbox Feedback site, having gathered over 143 000 votes so far. And as soon as I rig this special software to flood that site with requests, that honour will go to Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.

Geralt 2.0 looks weird when compared to Geralt 3.0… Then again Geralt 1.0 is totally off as well. Man Geralt doesn’t age well at all does he 😛

If Geralt was more like Deadpool, then he’d totally have called Vernon Roche something totally different… and that would be Sinbad.

As much as I’ve loved the Witcher games, 2 just fell short for me. Even while playing it, it just felt watered down in comparison to 1. Especially on the alchemy side of things. Looking back, I still think Witcher 1 had the best alchemy system of the 3 games.

Can’t be that bad, can it?

Don’t get me wrong, it’s good. I just thought it was the weakest in the series.

Yes and no, for me. 1 had some serious balance issues, particular in the swamp. I struggled in some places and others not, it seemed that part was disjointed.
I loved one, the first real “witcher” quest, with the monster and the little village that was terrorised by it, the priest leading them, was AWESOME. It set the whole tone for me. Also, the vampires who just randomly became naked when I, through dialogue alone, proved they were vampires. Just craziness, loved the game.

Yeah, there were some areas that needed work in 1. And when they brought out that enhanced edition, jeez, I got killed so quickly when trying to jam the extra content!
I suppose I am rather biased toward 1, since it was our first introduction as English speakers to Geralt and his world. And that epic opening cutscene!
That game made me go out and buy the books and damn, that Polish guy created a wonderful world!

as you said it.
Yes, death was around each corner and I normally only handle so much frustration before I move on, but not that game.

The combat system put me off a bit in 1 when I started playing it, but what really pulled me in was the story and characters. Seeing as I only finished it this week, I have to say I’m very impressed with the series so far.

It is not, it is still loads of fun. With some good story elements, too. All round an awesome game, with few good or evil characters, but quite a few “human” ones, with motivations that make sense.

Didn’t like the fact that you had to swot up on some herbs before you are allowed to pluck some White Myrtle petals…also the combat was atrocious. But the atmosphere and story more than made up for it!

The Microsoft Xbox division first had to make sure that South Africa is a legitimate country. You know how good the US people are with geography.

Witcher 2, insert Disk to play. Mass Effect insert disk to play.

Xbox Live has Witcher 2 for free for Xbox 360, therefore for Xbox One. Hit download now for Xbox 360, that removes the disk problems on both consoles.

Very happy about this. actually had the game on disc and borrowed a friends Xbox 360 to play TW2. Now I can finally play it on my bone! Massive Witcher 2 and 3 marathon with expansions incoming!
