We still don’t know when the Xbox One is coming – though i is expected to release in the US this November. That’s two months away – yet, the system was until very recently still getting last-minute tweaks. According to Xbox chief marketing officer Yusuf Mehdi, the Xbox One is now in full production – with a higher CPU clock speed.
Speaking at the Citi Global Technology Conference, Yehdi confirmed that the Xbox One’s CPU has been bumped up from 1.6Ghz to 1.75Ghz, a handy 10 (and a bit!) per cent increase. This follows the 6 per cent increase in its GPU that was announced recently.
Speaking on neoGAF, lead Xbox planner Albert Penello has said that everything we’ve seen so far has been running on “1.6 boxes” and that developers “should start seeing” the increased CPU “soon.”
He also reiterated that there are no production issues with the Xbone, and that the console is in full production. He notes, quite correctly, that Sony has yet to tell the world what clock speed its PlayStation 4 CPU runs at. All previous spec rumours suggested that the PlayStation 4 was, technically, a tiny bit faster than the Xbox One – but with all this tweaking, whatever differences there are are going to end up being negligible at best.
Much like the current generation of consoles, it’s not going to come down to raw power – but rather quality of the games.

While that’s quite a drastic difference compared to the XBox360 I am still baffled with why they couldn’t produce a CPU with at least 2GHz. I’m no expert but surely the tech is there and wouldn’t have cost more? Would it?

Most CPU’s and GPU’s can be overclocked safely. Xbox One was built with cooling in mind hence the big ass box and vents galore, that thing will never overheat! Wouldn’t try overclocking with the PS4 though, that’ll melt faster than a plastic spoon in a microwave!
