Free games! Get yer free games that are attached to annual subscription programs that allow you to play online! Okay, maybe the games doled out in programs such as PlayStation Plus and Xbox Games With Gold ain’t so free after all, but it is nice to know that your online subscription nets you some sort of reward.
This month, Xbox is doubling down on titles for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, that range from sneaking around military bases to sneaking around undead hordes. Here’s what’s on the way:
Xbox One
- Valiant Hearts: The Great War
- The Walking Dead: The Complete First Season
In case you missed out on it on PlayStation, then good news! Valiant Hearts is now going to be available on Xbox One for the entirety of October. It’s another great example of the kind of games that Ubisoft can bankroll when they’re not focused on assassins and hackers, with Zoe gushing about the emotions behind the title in her initial review:
For the most part, I believe Ubisoft achieved their goal with this game. The characters are compelling, and I did become attached to each of them in a particular way. The emotions run high, and by the end of the game I was practically in tears.
Valiant Hearts successfully tells the story of World War I from a very human perspective and will help keep the memory of the war alive, for at least a little longer.
I may not be a big fan of Telltale Games, but it’s hard to deny the success behind The Walking Dead series of games. If it’s your cup of undead tea, there’s definitely value in having an entire season of the franchise to play with. The Walking Dead will be up for download from October 16 to November 15.
Xbox 360
- Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes
- The Walking Dead: The Complete First Season
The Metal Gear Solid prequel already popped up on current-gen consoles this year, and now it’s getting some last-gen love. Worth a bash, if you need a gateway drug into the world of Metal Gear Solid V, and nowhere near as short as you’d think it was.

So yesterday I was in town and got Assassin’s Creed Black Flag for R99 for pc. On Special at the Ubisoft store you can’t even get it for near that.
Digital games distribution is not cheaper, clearly.

Bought it for my wife though. She’s been wanting it for a while now. I’ve got ME2 to work on right now while trying to juggle The Crew.
Still have AC III on Uplay also, unplayed.

Same here… Bought all the Assassins creeds not too long ago.. Still meaning to finish Brotherhood though so that I can start Revelations. AC III is still the weakest one of them all IMO though… Hated it too DEATH!!

Black Flag is the best Ass Creed ever! The ship battles makes the game. I put so many hours into that ship 🙂

It’s a bit iffy on pc (it just feels like it’s meant to be played on a console), but I hear ME3 is better ported. So I’ll see when I get there.

I LOVED BLACK FLAG! Especially when your crew sing their morale songs on your way to a mission or way point. felt like I was playing Pirates of the Caribbean.. THE GAME

That was their plan they said… either way don’t think I will be back for an Ass Creed game for many a years to come.

The very last open world game I also enjoyed. I am so tired of them all. I will stick to Destiny and Fifa for the foreseeable future it would seem.

One of the reasons I dislike MGS V s much as I do… Some games just want to be open world these days just for the sake to say ITS OPEN WORLD.
I like how games like MGS 3 and TLOU tricks the player in to the illusion of open world. Thats why these games did so well, it felt massive in scale and had a lot of meat on its bones when it came to narrative as well!
These 2 games are a perfect example of many other games on how to find the perfect balance.

Yup – digital is just ridiculously over-priced at the moment 99% of the time (the 1% is only when they have specials). Eg. Pay R1049 (you read that right) for Arkham Knight Day One digitally (includes extra dlc) or buy it from any normal retailer (like CNA) for R849?? Yeah, I know which one I would choose…

I’ve pretty much decided on getting MGSV as my xmas pressie to myself, was looking the other day at prices, and it’s cheaper to buy the disk with only the Steam installer on it than it is to buy it directly from Steam – and not by a little.
Grand Admiral Chief
September 25, 2015 at 08:27
How much cheaper?
Alien Emperor Trevor
September 25, 2015 at 08:38
$60 on Steam, which is over R800 now – and R515 on Raru.

The Crew currently owns me (only really fun with friends – not so much by yourself)

Haha. Love those kind of games.
All that stops me in The Crew is that the guy I co-op with has to return to his life every once in a while. What a fader.

Season 2 wasn’t as good as Season 1, I felt. But, it was still a good story and a lot of fun. I decided to play it as Clem just wanting to survive – so I made decisions based on her well-being, no one else’s… Made for some fun interactions with others.
Alien Emperor Trevor
September 25, 2015 at 09:11
It feels a bit different now that you’re focused on Clem alone, and not Lee & Clem working together. It’s more her trying to survive against the adults without Lee to back her up.

Finished MGSV at 130hours 79%. What the hell was everybody banging on about? The ending was fantastic 🙂
AWESOME ENDING
On my way to building a Nuke it takes 2% every hour.

Just don’t nuke me. My people can’t survive another apocalypse. They’re already talking about Nuka Cola in their sleep.

September 25, 2015 at 08:51
lol. I think the idea of this side quest is to build a Nuke that takes up all your fuel resources and then you have to disarm it. Thats the message Hideo has been trumpeting for the last 29 years.
PEACE.
Even after 130hours your actions still get rewarded with everything you do in the game. The game design is genius and not ONCE have I been frustrated by the game play and pacing mechanics.
