Sony’s not worried about the competition

Sony recently unveiled its PlayStation 4 (without actually unveiling it at all) at a grand event. Rumours abound that Microsoft will soon have its own event to Usher in the next gen. Sony is not at all worried about being upstaged., saying that it’s aware of the competition – but happily marches to the beat of its own drum.

“We’ve always had different competitors, we were in the space before Microsoft and we may be in the space after Microsoft,” SCEA boss Jack Tretton told Bloomberg News.

“We’ve seen competitors come and go, I think we’re mindful of what we do. Quite frankly we believe that anything that adds attention and success in the gaming industry is good for us.

We’re aware of our competition but we march to own strategy and we’re very confident that holiday 2013 is a great time to bring out PlayStation 4,” Jack affirmed, in the face of Microsoft warnings.

In that interview, Tretton was asked about the role of the casual market in the success of the upcoming PS4, saying there’s more info coming – but they wanted to focus on the core for now

“There’s a lot of the story still to tell,” he replied. “We wanted to focus on the games and talk to our gaming audience… The gamers got it, that’s who we’re talking to.”

That’s the thing that impressed me most about Sony’s PS4 reveal; an actual focus on games, game developers and gamers.

As well while Microsoft is focusing on integrating tablets, facebook, netflicks, twitter and family into their consoles, Sony has actually remembered what consoles are for, Playing games. Lets hope they keep that promise.

Agreed. Look, I’m all for more options and gimmicks, as long as that’s not the focus of the console.

You left out Kinect! Although that falls under “family”. Kinect ducks donkey balls.

Yes and that is why they put a dedicated button on the controller to share your CoD screenshots on Facebook.

I have a console to play games. That’s it. I couldn’t give 2 sh!ts about integrating “social media” into my console or linking it to my toaster.

GAMES you hear that Microman? GAMES. Its not even revealed yet and the MANDATORY KINECT 2 has already put me off. I dont want that piece of shit. Keep your BING and start making 1st part games that are graphically superior by ten fold and not the same as the competitor and Ill think about getting my 360 a big brother.

But we all know that Microman wants the living room so it can plug its Tablets. BOOOOOO Its always wanted the living room way before they made a console. Now the Trojan horse will open its gates. no pun intended.

P.S. FREE XBOX LIVE will be a good start.

Sony’s got BALLS. And they made sure that people were informed about tablet, phone social, and cloud integration on the PS4… But the real star of the evening was in actuality not REALLY the PS4 or the brand spanking new blue eyed DUALSHOCK 4 (MOOVita)… It was GAMES and showing off how they ran on the PS4’s hardware, because in the end what the PS4 and neXtBOX should be about is, games and gamers.

Sony listened to the developers this time by using hardware which was easy to develop for… So the easier it is to make a game on the PS4 the sooner it will reach the customers.

Haha what else are Sony going to say. Even if they are worried they won’t express that to the media. I’m keen to see Microsoft’s official announcement. I think Microsoft will blow gamers away…especially all the big talkers already thinking Sony has won. Bottom line – Sony needed to wake up because they were pretty shit for the last 3 years.

While I appreciate Sony’s focus on gamers, they are getting a big head about the industry. The ps3 wasn’t the most popular system, and the Vita is currently failing. They should be a little more mindful.
