Will Microsoft reveal an Xbox One Elite at E3?

Xbox One elite

E3 is coming, and rumors are flying around every day. Nintendo might be ready to show off the NX at next month’s convention, and there are some solid whispers that Sony will be revealing a PlayStation 4.5/Neo. But they might not be the only companies with hardware upgrades to reveal at E3 as the latest word through the grapevine is that Microsoft also has hardware plans for E3.

Over on Thurrott, (thanks GamesIndustry), there’s word about something brewing on team Microsoft.

Based on sources inside the company, expect to see new hardware at the event and there will also be a new standard controller that ships with the Xbox One.

The new standard controller will look similar to the current design, which isn’t too surprising, but will likely come in a new color.

[…] But wait, there’s more. The company also has something else up its sleeve that I still don’t have all the details on but it’s a much bigger deal than an updated standard controller. While the rumors of a PS4K have been running rampant, and I don’t know yet if this new device is set to take on that console, they will have another, much larger hardware related announcement, at E3 this year. I had previously heard that they were working on a new Elite console, they recently announced an Elite bundle, but I am not sure if this is an update to that product or something brand new.

Xbox has gotten a ton of flak for being the “weaker” console when compared to the PS4. It simply can’t deliver the same raw performance when it comes to third-party titles, although first party games look fantastic on the Xbox One. It would, therefore, make sense for them to do a mid-cycle upgrade if that’s the new trend – more than the PS4, the Xbox One could use a bit of a power boost to see it through to the end of this console generation.

If they’re smart, they will market it as an Xbox One Elite and ship it with the Elite controller and boosted power. Sure, games can still run on a normal Xbox One, but this will offer an elite experience. But of course, it’s all just rumor for now – we will have to wait and see what happens next month.

    Half Life 3 confirmed!

But seriously. All you console fans. If this turns out to be true then the console generation has officially started its long walk to becoming just another iteration of the PC generation. I mean you already have day1 patches and DLC as well as OTT services like that EA thing on Xbone.

May as well start buying a keyboard and mouse so you can get used to no more auto aim.

As an ex-PC gamer I really don’t understand the hate towards consoles. I used to use PC exclusively for gaming. Made the move over to console around 6 years ago because upgrades were hard to keep up with. Right now I am still a happy console gamer, sure it took a month or so to get used to playing FPS with a controller but after that I don’t really feel any difference.I also switch off auto aim wherever possible because it does annoy me. Yes it does mean I am fractionally worse at aiming over those who use auto aim and yes it does mean I am a slightly less precise than keyboard and mouse but I was never close to being the best at any level in CS and tbh who of us here was?

One thing that a PC will not allow me to do with a keyboard and mouse is to lie in all manner of ungodly positions all over the couch under blankets playing my fav game.

Why can’t people just game and be happy, yes the graphics on PC are better, but unless you have the money to spend on the latest and greatest the visual difference between the 2 platforms doesn’t exist.

Take Overwatch for example, runs beautifully on Xbox One and is tons of fun and looks good. What else do you want?

” because upgrades were hard to keep up with”
You see, right there in the beginning, you got it wrong.

Nevertheless, these days console gaming is very similar to PC gaming (Day 1 patches, always on, console upgrades, etc etc) and membership fees and games being more expensive than the PC counterpart, yeah, if you want to compare prices, that won’t work.

Also, you can also use a controller on the PC, so that is also not a valid point.

“but unless you have the money to spend on the latest and greatest the visual difference between the 2 platforms doesn’t exist” – come now, this is total BS. It would have been true if you said the latest and greatest will give you 4k, but only a handful of people have that luxury.

I’m perfectly happy on my PC, and I’m perfectly happy that other people are happy with the console of their choice, not knocking that. As long as you appreciate good games, all is well.

lol…I know you can use a controller on the PC but its just not the same. Me on the couch with beer, feet up on an ottoman, thats the life. Don’t really want to sit in a room somewhere with the controller on my lap.

I still maintain my visual difference point, you just do not notice the difference to any degree that really matters when playing. I will concede that some games dropping to below 40fps does annoy me to now end (looking at BF4 specifically here).

Coming from PC I never really had a problem with day one patches etc, kinda just always assumed it was part of the deal so having the same on console didn’t really factor into the equation.

Unfortunately, the gaming industry is a bit broken at the moment. Overpriced, broken and half-assed games seems the norm, irrespective of the platform

While this news would normally be exciting to us, The nature of our Rand/Dollar exchange rate is bound to leave us all with a terrible taste in our collective mouths. YUM.

So what would you call the current Xbox Elite? LoL they can’t call it that. They’d have to call it the Xbox Elite 2, or Xbox Elite 4K…may as well just call it something all together different.
