Total War: Warhammer delayed to May 24

Waaaaaargh

Warhammer 40 000 has had plenty of strategy games in the past. There’s the rather swell Sawn of War series, strategy games pitting Space Marines against the horrors of the galaxy in a neverending war to keep humanity from becoming a breakfast option on a cosmic buffet of chaos and blood. But the other Warhammer series has never really had a strategy that completely captured the sheer epicness of a Greenskin army powered purely by willpower.

Total War: Warhammer wants to attempt to bring that scale to life, with their trademark game franchise and habit of throwing untold numbers of cannon fodder troops at you in massive campaigns. You might just have to wait a little while longer for it however. Sega has announced that Total War: Warhammer will now ship a month later than expected, missing the April 28 deadline and arriving on May 24 instead.

“This could be the best Total War game we’ve ever made. We don’t want to rush it,” creative director Mike Simpson said in an press release about the delay.

It’s an enormous game and we also want to make absolutely sure reviewers have enough time to play it thoroughly before launch. Many thanks to the huge number of people who have pre-ordered and are eagerly awaiting release day. We’re pulling out all the stops for you.

Said stops also include final minimum and recommended hardware requirements for PCs, as well as a 60 FPS spec “for those gamers looking to hit that threshold during battles.” Here are those new specs, although Creative Assembly noted that “the framerates below are based on PCs using the quoted specs with fresh OS installs, no major background programs running, and should be taken as a guide rather than an absolute.”

And because 4 May would be a heretical release date, what with its relation to the Warp.
