Take a closer look at Aguilar’s costume in the Assassin’s Creed movie

There’s a pretty vibrant community out there of Assassin’s Creed cosplayers. And that’s because the look of an ancient Templar-stabber is actually relatively easy and dapper to pull off. Whether you’re going old school with a frilly shirt ala Ezio Auditore De Firenze or rocking a top hat as one of the Frye siblings, the general look of Assassin’s Creed is one that is grounded in a relative sense of reality.

Which means that the costume for the upcoming movie is going to go overboard with the smaller details. Michael Fassbender plays the lead in that upcoming film, a descendant of Callum Lynch who was operating in the shadows many hundreds of years ago. And wearing some fly-ass threads as he popped and locked a hidden blade into the skulls of anyone who got in his way.

Naturally, the Assassin’s Creed cosplay community is going to want to emulate that look. And Ubisoft is prepared for this, as they’ve just released some high resolution images of Aguilar’s costume:

There’s a LOT of small details here, that fans are going to obsess over perfectly replicating. The stitching on the fabric, the way the leather is pressed and ivory that forms a v-shape over the torso. Whoever decides to recreate this and aims for a 100% level of synchronisation with the authenticity of all the baubles and fabrics, is going to be in for one hell of a project.

The biggest challenge that I see here however? Those boots. They’ve got the most ornate pattern on them possibly referencing the precursor civilisation known as the Isu. That’s going to take some real talent to reproduce. Otherwise, Fassebender’s costume is really growing on me. It looked odd at first, but it’s the attention to detail that references the franchise that is making me appreciate it even more. What do you think?
