No Man's Sky is going to test your ability to survive 2

No Man’s Sky is less than two weeks away from finally launching, and in the lead up Hello Games have been pumping out a series of short trailers showing off the game’s four main pillars of gameplay. There’s mass exploration, ground and aerial combat and diplomatic trading to wrestle with, but all of those come secondary to the most instinctive feature No Man’s Sky offer. Its massive universe is an incredibly harsh one, and you’re going to have to focus to stay alive.

And that’s not from sentinels trying to turn you into space dust or pirates coming after your bounty. Survival is down to raw preparation. Some planets might be too cold, too toxic or too hot for you to set foot on, draining your resources and burning through your suit’s shields before you drop to the floor prematurely. It’s not the most in-depth survival system around (it’s not really a game concerned with the last time you took a bite of bread), but it’s a system you won’t be able to ignore.

In the most basic way, survival encapsulates all three other pillars of gameplay that No Man’s Sky offers. Out most basic instinct in life is survival, and this permeates right through everything you’ll do in this procedurally created world. You’ll have to stock your inventory with items that make interplanetary exploration possible, surviving the harshest conditions maths makes possible. Either that, you’ll you have to get really good at carving out caves in especially cold planets. The odds of a misshapen Tauntaun saving your behind isn’t exactly high.

No Man’s Sky is still a little confusing and equal parts fascinating, but it’s only a few short days before we really know if he last three years of excitement have a worthy enough payoff. It’s out on PS4 on August 9th, and on PC later on the 12th.

I bet the reason they’re always saying how the likelihood of coming across another human player is very remote is because MP isn’t actually enabled. trollol.

That would be the most hilarious thing ever haha!!

Im still trying to figure out if I actually like this or not, I would love to play this with a couple of friends but it looks like there is not much to do from the videos I saw, I can obviously be wrong, but I am cautiously optimistic about this game

I did some research on this after making the comment, Multiplayer is essentially not enabled. the chances of you finding a person even when you know kindof where they are is almost impossible.

The planets are acurate (relative) in size, so even if 100 people landed on the same planet at the same time, it would take them years to “bump” into eachother if they are not communicating.

With the size of the universe, you and your friends can spawn litterely millions of killometers apart, and it would take you the better part of a month’s worth of gameplay just to be able to find eachother.

I was worried about that. So no co-op then 🙁
The game still intrigues me none the less. The kid in me who always thought space travel would be cool is still very much alive. So even just the exploration part is interesting enough for me.

Yep, all the research points to basically no multiplayer in NMS. Which sucks because I wanted to pick this up to have it scratch the itch until Star Citizen progresses a bit.

Ive never been a big fan of single player games, but Ive kept my eye on this and Subnautica, but playing Subnautica I got 10 hours in before I was bored and went back to online multiplayer, so I doubt that I would get this.

Fair enough. I must say that Subnautica could really benefit from MP. I had The Forest before it got MP and it’s just so much more fun playing in co-op now.

Subnautica with MP and PVP would be amazing, I love the underwater element of the whole thing, but they will not be working on that for a very long time.

I play a crapload of survival games often and its always better with a friend or two, survival games were never meant to be played alone methinks

Agreed. I also love my survival games. Currently stuck back in ARK again for the second time.

Ark is something Ill always come back to, especially with the center Island being so amazing now, it really feels like a new game. I am stuck into Ark: Survival of the Fittest at the moment and loveing the fast paced survival with pure PVP, it is really amazingly fun once you start winning rounds.
The cool thing is, for 200 wins, you get the bionic Giganto skin that you can use in the normal Ark.

            Oh, that’s pretty cool.
I’m a pretty slow, relaxed played, so I’m sticking with normal ARK for now.

I wonder if you can blow up planets?

I will call my ship Serenity and conquer the galaxy.

I just want to play this game to have that real space exploration fun like in Firefly. Sell all the contraband!
