Warrior’s Lair for PS Vita axed

Ruin

Remember back when Sony first showed off the Vita? In one of the games they showed a very cool cross-play feature, utilising a Diablo-like dungeon crawler, that allowed you  to pick and play on the Ps3 where you left off on the Vita – and vice versa. It was called Ruin, and then it became Warrior’s Lair. And now, it’s no more.

Sony’s confirmed to IGN that the game has been cancelled

“Sony Computer Entertainment can confirm that Warrior’s Lair for PS Vita is no longer in development,” a Sony representative said. “We apologize to those who pre-ordered the title and ask that they contact their retailer directly to cancel their pre-sale.”

That’s a pity, because if there’s one thing the Vita can’t afford to do is lose games, especially promising ones. Sony really has no idea what to do with the Vita now, which is still struggling to gain any significant momentum, and it’s starting to look they’re hoping the PlayStation 4’s Vita interconnectivity will save the handheld.

Still, they’re quick to remind you that here are games coming for the system.

“The line-up of PS Vita first-party and third-party content remains strong with more than 85 titles scheduled to launch for the system by the end of 2013 including Killzone: Mercenary, Tearaway, Doki Doki Universe, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, Flower, The Walking Dead, and more,” they added.

The problem with the Vita is that it’s still missing its “killer app,” with Media Molecule’s Tearaway being the only likely candidate on the horizon.

Only way I’ll consider buying a Vita is if it can be used as a second screen for PS4 games, meaning instead of split screen the second player can play on the Vita. That I would like because I hate split screen… But, it probably won’t happen, and even if it does, it wont be supported by all games…

Well according to the bumpf on the PS website, that feature is supposed to be available on Wipeout HD/Fury, with some sort of cross purchase with Wipeout 2048. I Have HD/Fury but havent managed to figure out how the whole thing works. I should really go check up on that before i comment, but hey. Its how I roll.

However if screen sharing or 2nd player screen is “viable” now, Im pretty certain it will carry over to PS4

The Vita is a Tech Demo and nothing more.
The sooner they get rid of that crap marketing of it being a portable PS3 the better.

Forget the touchscreen FAD and start giving us some shit hot RPGs because they are perfect for handhelds.

Dragon Quest 8 please, Tean ICO games, Final Fantasy… does not matter if they are HD versions of kick ass PS2 games. JUST BRING THE GAMES ALREADY.

Fcking tech savy big wigs trying to be different all of the time.

LESS IS MORE… OK that line does not work.

I wonder if the game’s cancellation wasn’t brought about by all PS4 games natively supporting this ‘transfarring’ feature. You could really do this with Diablo 3 if you have the PS4 version, so why make a Diablo 3 clone?

I was hoping this was not the case. Its the only game I’m really looking forward to for my near useless device. Anyone want to buy a near brand new Vita for R1200? 😀
