The PC version of Skyrim is getting a Creation Kit which will allow users to create their own mods for Skyrim and share them out with their friends, family and random strangers.
Unfortunately the console versions don’t get the Creation Kit but there is some good news since any mods created on the PC version will work perfectly fine on the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions.
But there is a catch, neither Microsoft nor Sony are willing to allow user generated content to be accessible by the console versions.
According to the executive producer, Todd Howard
“It works on all the consoles,â€
“As far as the 360 and PS3, right now there’s not an avenue for us to make that available, but we’d very much like to find a way. We have talked to Microsoft and Sony, and so there’s a chance it might happen one day, [but] I don’t see it happening for releaseâ€
he then goes on to state
We’d like to see it happen, because it works, it’s how we made the game. I think it’s something really cool about what we do, but 90 per cent of our audience is on the consoles, so 90 per cent of our audience can’t even see this thing. So if we can solve that we’d like to
Personally I’m not surprised that Microsoft are saying no as they haven’t allowed anyone to have any user generated content on their console, unless I’m forgetting something?
However Sony are huge into the Play Create Share idea as we’ve seen with LIttleBigPlanet and ModNation Racers so hopefully they will change their mind and allow us to install our awesome mods on the PS3 version of Skyrim.
