Irrational Games offers closure on Bioshock

All the feels.

Though it was easily my most disappointing game last year, I still liked Bioshock Infinite. It told a cool story, had a fantastic setting and interesting characters; I just wish the actual gameplay hadn’t devolved in to being a pure shooter. Far more disappointing is the knowledge that its developer Irrational Games has effectively been closed.

Their last release will be the second bit of the Burial at Sea DLC for Bioshock Infinite, which aptly comes full circle and goes back to the undersea dystopia of Rapture. In this little Q7A, the exiting staff remember their proudest moments. Watch the game’s animators, artists and writers discussing their favourite parts of the DLC. It’s pretty sad stuff, and is part of the #Irrationaljobs movement to help find all of the displaced staff new employment.

Warning: There may be a spoiler or two.

Burial at Sea Episode 2 is coming on 25th March, and ties up loose ends from the last DLC, along with some remaining threads from the very first Bioshock.

Cheers, Irrational Games. I very much doubt that it’s the last we’ll see of Bioshock or its universes – I just have to wonder how good they’ll actually be.

Graphics driver shite. Getting tired of Nvidia’s crap. PC is due for a format anyway. Love giving the thing a fresh start every year or so.

Now you have me seriously curious.
If I still have my software issue tonight I’m formatting. HAVE to finish that game this week. Luckily Steam makes game saves one fewer thing to worry about.

Tired of NVidia’s crap? Switch to AMD. I have and I am quite happy. Just never expect BF4 to work properly.

            March 11, 2014 at 14:07

If the AMD makes no EA game work it really wouldn’t bother me, so that’s fine. Really want to switch to AMD on my next upgrade, but the card is only a year old and still running most games on high. So it’s not time yet.

            March 11, 2014 at 14:12

I’m in the same predicament. AMD cards are cheaper than Nvidia cards locally. I’m waiting for the AMD DX12 refresh line-up until then.

Do a clean install with the Nvidia driver setup.

I run CCLEANER once a month and touch wood, my PC runs like new everytime.

I’m doing very well at knocking off games from my backlog list, but re-plays are messing it up. Have gone through 70% of the games in my Steam library already. Though the crap ones I didn’t finish.

          • Mossel

            March 11, 2014 at 14:23

Well done! Those were the days when Bioshock was the only game in my steam library. And then I discovered the specials… I’m kinda stuck with civ5 at the moment. But after that I’m gonna try and finish Outlast and Dark Souls. My problem is I still have games like Dragon Age, Witcher 1 and Fallout:NV on my backlog. Those are all games that take about 50hours to finnish. More like 100 hours if done properly.

            March 11, 2014 at 14:24

Fallout NV is worth every hour. Feels a bit old at times, but it’s really great. I’ve replayed that one quite a few times.
Next on my list is STALKER Call Of Pripyat with the Misery mod.

I actually read the book before I got into the game, was cool to see how they pulled off certain monsters and moments. The game definitely got the feel of the book right.

I LOVE cats. I have had, over the years, several pedigree cats.

Not exactly cheap sometimes, but well worth it.

I cannot wait for my daughter to be old enough to go and interact with Norwegian Forest cat kittens and we can get one for her. Or perhaps not such a big breed, who knows? (I want the Forest Cat, so perhaps should not project) Or another Siamese, that can grow up with her. Damn clever, those cats.

            March 11, 2014 at 15:50

Get one! You don’t have to get a pedigree. We have two street cats that were looking for a home. They are low maintenance and space isn’t a problem. All they need is love!

They provide us with hours of entertainment, except when they bring live you presents at 3am…

Well, get a cat magazine and look up the two breeders, one in Cape Town and one in Randburg. We should not really discuss price, as the breeders set that, but I paid over R4k for my last one, about two years ago. My wife and I had a limit with cats we bought, never over R7k.

They are a very peaceful breed, calm and relaxed about life in general. My first one (sadly no longer with us) was so “timid” she played with the shadow of the rope, while the Somali played with the actual rope. And caught tennis balls thrown at him. The Fold was perfectly happy chasing the shadows.

Look up pedigree dog prices and then talk!

I do not mean in the Junk Mail and stuff. I mean through registered breeders, that belong to the various associations and follow standards of breeding. For example, A Scottish Fold is a genetic mutation, naturally occuring. You can seriously stuff them up, half the kittens lame and so forth if you breed them “wrong” I will not buy cats through OLX or Junk Mail or whatever. Registered breeder, that can show me
            a) where the cats live and breed
            b) the mother
            c) paperwork on the parents, grandparents and stuff
            d) not more than one litter per year per Queen
