GTA V seems to have a little Max Payne 3 in it

I was not a big fan of Rockstar’s take on Remedy’s Max Payne franchise. It was visually quite impressive, but the Houser brothers just didn’t manage to channel their inner Sam Lake for the overall narrative; which was more “Man on fire” or “Die Hard with a Brazilian” than Max Payne. That said, the actual shooting mechanics were superlative – and it looks like they’ll be moving over to GTA V.

That’s a good thing, because the melee combat and shooting in GTA has, frankly, been bordering on terrible. Youtuber datarace1 has but the gunplay from GTA V’s trailers side-by side with Max Payne 3’s and found them to be jarringly similar; barring the bullet-time stuff, of course.

What do you think? did you like Max Payne 3’s shooting, and are you happy for it to surface in GTA – or would you prefer they kept it as is, or perhaps borrowed more from Red Dead Redemption?

In my opinion, it’s probably just the character wheel and the same crosshair. GTAV might differ in mechanics.

Frankly I am suprised most of you didnt see this coming, They took what made max payne 3 good and put it into gta 5 it would be the obvious move. They Both use the RAGE engine just GTA 5 is a enhanced and optimized version of the engine. The animals and wild life is taken from Red Dead and enhanced ect. GTA 5 will have own animations and stuff but from that video is clear to see even some of the animations are a carbon copy just slightly tweaked for Gta 5. Max payne 3 was a great game and visually very impressive so i see gta 5 being massive and blow our socks off completely. 🙂

Nothing wrong with using a solid game mechanic to improve something in a series 🙂

And they should look at Sleeping dogs for melee fighting inspiration. An area GTA really needs some work in…

looks like only the weapon selection mechanics. Crosshairs and wheel idea are taken from RDR.

Did not like the selection wheel in Max Payne. Too often ended up with the wrong thing in my hand

Damn dude, I hope your fu*king ain’t as inaccurate as your weapon selection ‘else you gonna have a whole lot of babies!! Lol
I thought the wheel was cool, pretty quick selection tool, much better than using Left or Right on the D-Pad to scroll through the weapons until you get to the one you want…

You know it seems kind of lazy to take the gun wheel, movement, and shooting from one game and just slap it onto another. After two to three years of full developement you’d think they would have a shooting system just for gta to go along with the other original systems in the game. None the less it does look smooth and realistic, hopefully the melee will compliment the gun play nicely and make combat the best feature of the game.
