If you’re a steadfast Valve fan hoping that this year we’d finally be receiving a reveal of Half : Life 2 Episode 3 are in for bitter disappointment, as the company confirms it has nothing to show at this year’s E3

“Lots of folks have mailed asking about appointment times, etc., with Valve,” said Valve’s Doug Lombardi in a mail. “Well, we are not showing any titles at this year’s show. So no appointment is needed,” he concluded. This is upsetting, but not terribly surprising, news from the company whose last output from Half-Life – the series the company was founded on – having been the second in the episodic add-ons to Half-Life 2 in 2007.

Valve’s last release, the mind and physics bending puzzler Portal 2 is currently receiving stellar critical reception, with sales to match. The company’s only confirmed game at the moment is DOTA 2, a fully-fledged retail sequel to the wildly popular tournament-class tower defence mod for Blizzard’s Warcraft 3. The house that Gabe built is known for its somewhat relaxed development cycles and the relatively long waits for its games. Valve  has been using the same engine for its games since 2004, something it’s said it doesn’t plan on changing any time soon. Perhaps that’s just a ruse and they’ll finally announce Episode 3 alongside a new engine.

It pays to be hopeful, right?
