Destiny kicked off what is bound to be a very busy, and expensive, few weeks. After a boring and quiet Winter it’s now time for literally all the games to come out, mostly starting in the first week of October. One game coming out during that week is Alien: Isolation, and it doesn’t look like you’ll need too much PC power to ruin sleeping with the lights off for the near future.
Developers Creative Assembly have detailed the PC requirements for Isolation, just a few days after the game went gold. They’re fairly timid, especially when you look at the required and not recommended side of things. That’s probably because the game isn’t fully next-gen, so there seems to be a lot of room to toy with settings and performance on the lower end of the scale.
Minimum
- Operating System: Windows 7 (32bit)
- Processor: 3.16Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo E8500
- RAM: 4GB RAM
- Hard Drive: 35GB required for installation
- Video Card: 1GB DirectX® 11 (AMD Radeon HD 5550 or Nvidia GeForce GT 430)
Recommended
- Operating System: Windows 7 (64bit)
- Processor: AMD: Phenom II X4 955 – 4 Core, 3.2 GHz or INTEL: Core 2 Quad Q9650 – 4 Core, 3.0 Ghz
- RAM: 8GB RAM
- Hard Drive: 35GB required for installation
- Video Card: 2GB DirectX® 11 (AMD GPU: AMD Radeon R9 200 Series or Nvidia gpu: GeForce GTX660)
Your recommended specifications aren’t exactly low, but it’s pretty much in line with what is usually expected. What is interesting to note is how reliant games are becoming on GPU memory, with 2GB being fairly high for those running powerful yet old cards. For example, I’m still rocking a GTX 590, which still has plenty power but lacks the memory to keep up in some cases.
Regardless, I think being hunted by the most realistic Xenomorph PC can muster isn’t something that really appeals to the sleeping side of my brain. primarily because it knows it won’t be getting much afterwards. Alien: Isolation is out on October 8th for PC, Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One and PS4.

Been reading a lot of threads on this game lately. Seems a lot of people that played are worried about the AI of the Xeno, seems to be unbalanced. Then again, I guess Xenomorphs are not well-known for being balanced

Unfair, most of the complaints are aimed towards the Xeno being able to spot you when you’re clearly well hidden and the xeno seems to always know where you are

Well if you look at the AvP games, the aliens can “sense” your location so I don’t see how hiding in the closet being effective tbh

35GB installation probably means around 30GB to download. That’s the only thing that really makes me worried about upcoming games, the size of the downloads.

nope. 2GB cards are still too expensive. You’d cut off too many players

It’s not only the quantity of RAM that makes a difference. It comes to the RAM timings and clock rate.

Yes and no. If the VRAM required to hold a certain amount of texture detail at any time is more than 1GB then no matter how fast your ram it simply can’t hold the required texture detail (or whatever it is the RAM should be holding at that moment) and so you get stutter and lag.
