I will admit, I’ve been bad. I haven’t pre-ordered my console yet, even though I know that there will be limited supply. Somehow, I keep thinking that I’ll just be able to saunter into a store after launch and pick up my PS4 without a problem. Well, apparently GameStop in the US of A has already run out of launch stock.
Due to high demand, GameStop is no longer taking pre-orders for the PS4. They only began taking pre-orders on 11 June – it took less than a month for them to allocate all of their launch stock! I’m not particularly surprised; not only was there high demand for the PS4, they also didn’t put any limits on pre-orders for a while there. Apparently, that retailer has also hit their cap for Xbox One preorders. So, less than a month from when pre-orders open, and they’re already closed.
Preorders are still available at our local retailers, but I’m starting to wonder for how much longer. I suppose it’s time to bite the bullet and start saving for my next-gen console. Who knows how much stock was actually allocated to “the Dark Continent”, and I don’t want to be the sad gamer without a shiny new console. If it only took a month for one of the biggest retailers in ‘merica to sell out of launch stock, I wonder how long it will be for our guys to also sell out.
Also, I think this is a pretty good sign for both next-gen consoles. Such high demand means a high early adoption rate. Hopefully, that also translates into awesome games being developed early in the console’s life cycle without fears of profitability.

Well, we never saw much of XIII up until release, they lied with their E3 trailer showing false gameplay, FF XV actually showed a lot of story and in game gameplay, no reason not to be hype at that

Yes they are releasing it on PS3, Xbox360, PS4 and Xone but they are scaling graphics and effects to the console the game is running on.
So it sounds that they are developing for either the PS4 or Xone and porting to the rest.

I can afford both plus a PC right now (or pay off my car), but I will rather wait. I will not be an early adopter. Also, if my LTE works (deliver my device NOW Telkom plz) I will only upgrade my PC for now! ****Quickly starts researching latest CPU and motherboards 🙂

Yeah, LTE is a problem. My wife;s phone (Pretoria) we had to switch it off, i.e. never go more than 3g, because it just stopped working, dead. Other people in our area said the seem even the big red beast claims it works fine in our area, no problems.
We have not tried for about six months.
Of course of LTE is one of those annoying things with two meanings, then ignore this

Getting Telkom Home/Office LTE. They put up a tower close to me and I have guaranteed coverage. Plus they have a 14 day period during which I can just send it back.

Unfortunately iBurst is going down the drain. If you get good speeds, then good for you, but they have a habit of overloading their towers and then finding all sorts of reasons why it is not their fault if speeds drop. I had the normal iBurst and could play WoW at a latency of less than 350. Now I struggle to load websites!

Agreed, the one time I future proofed, I paid premium R2k for brand new 939 socket MB to be the first to ran 1Ghz+ and later multi-core at the local LAN just for 939 to be dropped in favor for AM2 (940 socket) a few months later.
If you ahve the extra cash save it now and rather go mid range more often.

Iburst is not so bad, if you do not play online games. If you do, you are stuffed. But they do tell you that upfront.
I found their service quick and efficient, over the last 3 to 4 years.

When I first joined (in 2010) I could play Starcraft 2, but then I moved house from a good coverage to a poor coverage area and playing games was out. but web browsing and downloads was ok speed. I had 2 external aerials

I have one external aerial – only have the Desktop USB modem thingy. They have admitted to some throttling on their side that negatively affected gaming. I have decent spends after 24:00 but eish then I need to sleep 🙁

Yeah, that is why I got ADSL. But the tech behind Iburst is “burst”, i.e. not consistent. So on a download, the speed may look good, bounce down and back up again. Not good enough for gaming. And they throtttle games!

Any console is only as good as it’s available titles and right now, there are none. I’ll be waiting for the catalogue’s to flesh out and a few “must have” titles get released.
I must admit though, I am dying to give that new Forza a crack, looks stunning.

Getting Diablo 3 in September for Xbox 360(cannot believe they’re taking my money AGAIN but think the console version will be much better than the pc), should keep me busy until Xbox one release locally!
