PlayStation 4 multiplayer isn’t available in all regions

One of the sneaky announcements Sony made at E3 is that with the PlayStation 4 you are now going to have to pay for online multiplayer gaming. Something Sony fans have held over Xbox 360 fans for the entire current generation.

Personally I have no issue with it and it helps keep servers and patches incoming, that don’t bork the system, so all is good from my side.

But there is a downside, according to a post on the PlayStation blog the online multiplayer features are only accessible to those countries that have an official PlayStation store

Unfortunately at this time gamers in countries which do not have a Store cannot access online multi-player features. However, we are considering every measure to offer PlayStation Store services to these territories as soon as possible. To clarify, the affected territories are: Bahrain, Lebanon, Romania, Oman, Slovakia, Malta, Cyprus and Iceland.

This was posted on the European PlayStation blog so I’m not sure if that’s a complete list or if local countries like Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and Mozambique will be affected. We however will not as we have an awesome local PlayStation store that is fully stocked and ready to rock.

We also don’t know if gamers in these affected countries will simply be able to sign up for a supported countries account and continue as usual.

But if you are in one of the unsupported countries you may want to check that out before placing your money down on a PlayStation 4.

I’m an old school SFII player and then SFIV, everything in-between didn’t count, just like all the Highlander movies after the original

From SFII yeah. It may have been Champion Edition when it started but I’d have to fire up my arcade to double check. Ken was always my fav character.

Checked it out, it was Super SF2: The New Challengers. Spent far too much time on that game with my trusty Megadrive back in the day.

Well first the Xbone drops it DRM requirements and now PS4 multiplayer is not available in all countries. Looks like the console war is far from being one sided this generation.

I don’t want to be an ass or anything, but I’ll be lafing at the console community now. It seems that no matter what, this side of the gaming industry is hitting a really hard bump. From bad to worse it seems. You guys still have one more option…

Wait a minute, are those seen as regions? I mean…..err… where are all those places? Alright not supporting those areas is actually a logical thing… I suppose. XD

I am really sorry for the guys and gals of those countries, but for once we in “dark South Africa” (Not meant as a colour of a person’s skin but rather the fact that we are 20-30 years behind the 1st word countries) won’t get screwed…. Sorry other guys from Africa, I will think of you….

Not an issue in today’s world. If you have access to internet to get your PS4 online, you have access to google which will help you figure out how to work around it.

Rumor has it the reason “always online” was not considered on the PS4 was to lower the risk of your system being bricked when doing the check in 🙂

In Lebanon you probably do not need a COD multiplayer session since you can just step outside and have the real thing. but ya … the whole world should be included .

It’s very easy creating an account for a different country, I’m sure most PS3 owners in unsupported countries ALREADY have supported accounts. My question is: how will Xbox One players play multiplayer outside of the 21 supported countries?

Ok this is really silly. I Am from Cyprus, A European country. Cyprus is a Greek speaking island and Greece gets to have the multiplayer and we dont, which is strange and lame..!
You can ofcourse avoid it and when you create an account (which i have) you select another country e.x. UK and be able to use the Playstation store/multiplayer features normally.
