No Gran Turismo 6 for the Vita

A game that could really help the Vita pick up some momentum would be a portable version of Polyphony digital’s Gran Turismo. GT was released for the PSP, but was ultimately a bit disappointing. A proper, fully-fledged – but toned-down – version of Gran Turismo 6 should be possible on the Vita though, shouldn’t it? Nope.

Sony Worldwide boss Shuhei Yoshida told IGN that while the Vita was indeed a powerful handheld, it just isn’t up to the task of doing GT6 justice.

"The PS Vita is a very powerful portable system, but not quite as powerful as PS3," said Yoshida.

"As you can tell looking at GT6, it really is using PS3 to a very high level. So it’s going to be really hard to move GT6 onto PS Vita," he added.

"I don’t expect the whole game to be able to run on PS Vita. So there’s no clear plans right now that we can talk about," concluded Yoshida.

That doesn’t mean that we won;t be getting some sort of paired down Gran Turismo on Sony’s struggling handheld – but it does mean that if it does, it’ll probably be very much like the PSP version, which lacked any sort of campaign mode.

The Vita – though home to some pretty good RPG’s and niche titles -  really needs games with some mainstream appeal, but they’re just not coming. Right now, it seems like the handheld’s success is hinged on its inter-console functionality, like remote play, with the PlayStation 4. I’m just not sure that people will have any money left to buy a Vita after shelling out for a PS4.

im very keen for borderlands. if they do it right that could be an extremely good thing for the vita, but a proper GT game for the vita with a good car list and functionality would sell consoles i rate. i can name a good few people who would buy vita’s just for a mobile GT experience.

I tried Killzone beta on the Vita over the weekend…….mind boggling to think the vita can handle it. But i recon they could make an amazing GT vita game.

Maybe a little, but cant imagine much, our standard wifi model is already doing 2k here, dont see it dropping below that, not by a whole lot if it does.

been seriously considering one so i can play games at work while no one is watching! one of the things that has prevented me getting one is the memory cards, a 32GB is like R800, will wait to see what the reduced price of there memory cards are.

Yeah, but remember Sony also said there would be drops in the cards too, so hopefully some good news awaits us all
