First PS4 pre-order price listed at R8300

The first pre-order page for the PlayStation 4 with a price is up and you may want to sit down for this. According to the page the PlayStation 4 is going to set you back R8300 on launch day.

But don’t panic too much right now, that price is from an Australian retailer and we have covered their excessive pricing on many occasions before. The Australian Dollar price they are listing is $899

But when the PlayStation 3 was released it was priced at $999 in Australia at first so this huge price may actually be a good sign for us locally.

If I recall correctly the PS3 was released at just over R6000 locally and as such we can expect a R1000 to R1500 cheaper launch price. Giving us a R4500 to R5000 launch which would be very hard to ignore in the run up to Christmas.

So what price would make it impossible for you to not buy a PlayStation 4 when it is released?

Lol, reminds me of this one dodgy store in Cape Town called Subterania. which sold imported Japanese PS2s for R10 000+. They eventually took a lot of flack from local gamers and I think we’re all happier that BT games is now in almost every shopping centre.

But then you get crazies on eBay who also tried to make a killing with both the PS3 and Xbox 360 when both were being released.

My friends paid R10k for a PS3 at launch in Dubai. That’s R10K with 2 games and import duites. They thought it was going to be superior the Xbox 360. Being the good friend as I am, I lol’d at them until Uncharterd finally released.

LOL, talk about pulling the ring out of it. F.ck em, greedy c.nts. Local price will be around R5k. Again this depends on exchange rates and of course how greedy Ster Kinekor get. But, based on our latest discussions with the re-sellers, thats what we can expect.

R 4700. Mentally, that is the price I won’t be able to ignore. I believe it is going to go for R 4699-00 for the cheaper version. I’ll get the bank to sponsor me some cash and buy a PS4 on launch day then!

Even 6k is out of the question, depends whats getting bundled, cost of the new format (if there is a new format) games, how many controllers etc etc. Considering too they using easy to get hold of existing tech, shouldnt really be asking more than 5k IMO, and that top line with 2 DS4’s and fatty hdd.

Impossible? About R2000. That would be a sure buy for me then. Lol. BUT we all know that’s impossible. The hardware in it simply wouldn’t warrent such a low price. Meh. For the price of a new PS4 though I am sure I could upgrade my PC properly

No, what you’re looking at is an Nvidia Shield on some serious steroids.

🙂 Sorry, couldn’t resist. But I also find it strange that they launched the PS4 functionally, controller and the rest without actually showing the console itself. I actually imagined Sony running a couple of supercomputers behind the curtain to provide the “PS4 experience”.

They won’t be catching me with this. I’m not gonna pay R5000+ end of the year and then exactly a year later Sony releases their ‘Slimline’ version that goes for half the price and includes upgrades and bug fixes.

Good! Just a warning, don’t buy a car, TV or Toaster, because in a year’s time, there will be something better on the market 😉

Bought the 60GB right after release, and it has more features than the ones you refer to. (Also, I prefer to think of a tornado-inducing cooling fan as a feature.) Buying early isn’t a bad thing.

Never! Toaster Oven > Toaster, for the simple reason that you can toast pizza, bagels, bruschetta, etc… in the toaster oven, and a toaster has very limited application (Frozen Waffles, Bagels, Toast).

Still, a toaster oven isn’t even a necessity. Technically everything could be done in the oven and even that isn’t a necessity because everything could be done (although, a bit more difficult) over a fire. 😉

So, in that sense, why ever buy any electronics ever (or any product)….because there’s always a new revision right around the corner. And hmmm, launch PS3 vs Slimline…let me think, which one has backwards compatibility? How many who complained that the PS3 was too expensive, also complained that the slimline lacked BC?

By the way, your maths are wrong. PS3 launched Nov of 2006, PS3 Slimline was announced August 18th 2009, and released September 2009. Most companies who build anything, will have a revision in 3 years time. Just sayin’

M$ and $ony can both keep their new consoles for the first couple of years after launch. I never purchase any new generation until there are at least 5 original titles worth purchasing on any new platform which generally takes a couple of years to achieve. The “next gen” isn’t a huge leap in graphics (must admit Crysis 3 blows everything else out the water currently) but I suppose the big boys need to do something to revitalize the industry as we’re currently sitting in an era where previous top games are only achieving moderate critical success even though the hoards are still snapping up the dros.

In addition to this, there has been very little to get excited about with these new consoles coming out, the overall gaming experience will still be identical and we’ll get to look forward to…

    Assassins Creed 4 to 8
Call of Crap 6 to 14
    Battlefield 4 to 6 (maybe 7)
Tomb Raider 13 to 18 – ie Uncharted: Croft
Dead Space 4 to 6 – Fuck you EA for Dead Space 3 – another great franchise ruined
Bioshock 4 to 6 – Fuck you EA for still holding the rights to the System Shock name, if it weren’t for you mf’ers, Irrational could actually remake the best game they’ve ever made and stop forcing us play through the year 19-who-gives-a-fuck with 60’s looking crap that I hated in Fallout anyway.

wait… what was the subject again?
