The PlayStation 4 is getting a third-party Elite controller

I really like the PlayStation 4 Dual Shock controller. I think it has a great shape, is the right size for my Trump-level hands and the built-in speaker needs to be utilised by more games. It’s just a pity that it has the build quality of an RDP house and the structural integrity of your comments during a Call of Duty match. Now compare that to any Xbox controller, 360 or One. Preferences aside, you have to admit that Microsoft puts a pretty solid piece of input together, with the zenith of those branded builds being the Xbox Elite Controller.

Well good news Sony fans! Because the PS4 is also getting an Elite controller! That happens to be a complete knock-off of the Microsoft design.

That’s according to a recent listing by US retailer Target for the third-party OEM controller, which looks like the bastard lovechild of the Xbox One Elite controller and a prop from Tron: Legacy. The $79.99 controller has a similar paint job, paddles at the rear and a D-Pad that looks like it can double as a satellite receiver. I’d also gladly wrap my digits around one of these, for the chance to play games on a controller that doesn’t peel rubber off like a VW Golf with an insecure chap behind the wheel when a scooter cuts the lane at a red light.

But here’s the thing: The Dual Shocker is already getting a slight update. Tomorrow sees Sony finally reveal the PlayStation 4 Slim after weeks of dodgy leaks, with a slightly improved controller packed in for good measure. Like I said, there’s nothing wrong with that controller, but some proper quality control on the build process for it would work wonders.

Also, maybe a small tool to help clean the gunk out of the device after a few weeks of sweaty-palmed play would also be worth considering. But anyway, there you have it: The PS4 is getting an Elite controller. Made by someone else.

Are they allowed to do this? I mean, we’re not all living in China!

A year later, my Xbox One controller is still in tip top shape.

        And it’s comfy AF. <3

It’s because on our system we actually have games to play so we use the controller! Haha just kidding.

Nah dude I hate the Xbox controller, don’t like the placement of thumb sticks hate that! Use it at Rage last year to test Division out wanted to throw that controller in their face it’s kaki.

Joke’s on you mate. I use mine on PC, I don’t have an Xbox One. I don’t have that library problem. 😛

The thumb sticks you get used to in about an hour. The difference between the Xbox and PS controller is that the latter doesn’t let you game for a solid 12 hours without your hands plotting your early “retirement”. If you know what I mean.

Hahaha nice, hopefully u don’t use a controller for FPS games though?

Have u tried the PS4 controller? Because I can game for hours at a time with it no problem. I agree with your statement of u referring to the PS3 controller.

I have yes. The PS4 controller is a huge improvement, but it’s still a long way from being as good for your hands as the Xbox controllers are.

And no, FPS I can’t use controller. It’s just… No. No and no and a little more no. But for RPGs, platformers and even No Man’s Sky? Yeah controller all the way. So much of the love.

I thought the 360 controller not only looked dumb but the dpad left stick offset seemed ridiculous. When the PS3 launched it was too expensive so I settled for a 360 and I was so wrong, it raped the DS3.

The DS4 is a big improvement over the DS3, even feels more comfy in hand compared to the 360 or xbone controller but I still prefer the offset dpad and left stick.

Yeah, the thumb sticks on the XB are much better positioned. The controller is the ONE thing from my XB360 that I’ve missed since going PS4.

Yeah man, to each their own.

Gotta admit, I was used the PS2, when I first jammed on the XB, the controller felt weird. Half an hour later I was touting “ALL CONTROLLERS SHOULD BE LIKE THIS!” Yes, I shouted it. And yes, my friends threw things at me in response.

There was nothing wrong with my XB360. It served me very well for nearly 10 years. And now it’s gone to my son, though being 1, it’s used solely as his DVD player. For now.

Finally PlayStation folks will understand just a little of why the Xbox controller is so vastly superior. This is just a taste, but a smidge is all they’ll need to feel the joy.

maybe the triggers might be better than the official one, considering that I don’t use when l play first person shooter on sony’s console, it doesn’t feel good like microsoft’s console and like the wii u pro controller.
