I’ll admit that I haven’t ever paid attention to Min-Liang Tan, not for any reason he has just never popped up on my radar. For those that don’t know he is the CEO of Razer gamer gear and appears to be pretty outspoken on his personal twitter account.
Razor are very famous for making some incredible gaming peripherals but oddly enough they’ve never really made anything for the PlayStation brand and no one has ever really known why.. until now.
Tan tweeted the following on Saturday
“One of the big reasons why we don’t make Playstation accessories is because I don’t really spend time with mine.”
And then the Internet exploded, as usual a steady stream of abuse was directed his way and one of the things that was posted was that he was selfish for not doing so… to which he responded
“
@GWAlistair Why’s it selfish? I design stuff I actually want as a gamer rather than sell stuff to gamers for money.”
Now in a world of capitalism and the race for the almighty dollar this is incredibly refreshing to see. Granted it’s not the best news for the PlayStation fans but he is the main designer and if he doesn’t enjoy playing on the PlayStation then it makes sense that he isn’t making accessories for it.
In the end Tan acknowledged that they will look at the PlayStation 4 when it’s released and if they like it then things will be made for it.

Yeah it was recommended I do from a mate. Looking at a couple of Razer’s or the Logitech G series. I just think screens and stuff are overkill on a KB

Wow, someone that spend as much money as me on the game. Got a few lithographs, couple thousand randelas later 😛 My MX310 is still fine after 10 years of abuse, but that mouse looks good!

I don’t even use any of those except for the black widow. Rest are all nicely displayed next to my CE copies of ME.Well at least 2 and 3 as 1 never had a CE 🙁 I also own all the ME models and the Anime BR CE movie. Damn I love ME!

Razer gaming gear is amazing, really. And while I appreciate his honestly (its so rare in the gaming industry now), I cant help but think that its a little silly considering the amount of money they could potentially make, simply because the main designer isnt a fan.
Thats like EA saying they wont make games on the WiiU because they…..oh wait. Never mind ^^

Would you rather have someone make things for you because they want to, or because they want to make money off of you. Razer would be a different company altogether if they simply made stuff where they thought they could make money. Here is a guy who makes things he is passionate about, and I would rather miss out on a few shiny things than have the guy change his philosophy just to make more money.

I love my BlackWidow mechanical KB…..wouldnt change it for the world (well , maybe put a USB port in it) but other than that, its a solid piece of hardware.
Im sure Mr Tan will changing his tune in a years time or so.

I had to click “Load Comments” twice. Funny thing is, only about 1.2% of the comments have to do with the article.
Any ways. I like the guy, hell if its not something you work with on a daily basis, why should it even be on your radar. People forget that developing physical products can be as if not more grueling than software. Lots of focus groups, material testing, market research and the like need to be set in stone first, before anything as close to a production line can even be envisioned.
The fact that the sony boys are upset is a weird one because how would they even know how good the brand/product razer is? Unless they already have razer equipment they dont really have much space to argue or contest. Im not saying they gotta shut up, but honestly how much 3rd party hardware do people buy for their consoles any way? Are they looking for headphones? If so, there much better sets out there than razers. Are they looking for controllers? Well cool, razer has some pretty rad stuff available for pc, and therefor in turn for the xbox. Im not sure what kind of programming is involved to make those units work on all platforms but if it was easy Im sure they would have concentrated on it.
Getting all hoitty toitty about such things annoys me, if it was a current 3rd party supplier for Sony, yeah then some hate is warranted, but just because he says he’s not concentrating on PS stuff has no weigh in at the hate wars.

Honestly People start companies for 2 reasons and 2 reasons alone…. Whatever they like doing ect and TO MAKE MONEY! Microsoft prob threw a ton of money at him and say this to the press Min-Liang “you dont use your playstation……much”
Min-Liang replies “but I like my playstation” Ms throws more money on the table….. People can be bought, I mean no offense Ps3 has GREAT games and he says no he doesnt use his ps3 much…. The only way he really means what he says is if like he bought a Ps3 and it bricked or something or maybe Sony said go f yourself if you think we gonna give you ……….. (crazy sum of money) to make products. But sadly no I cannot agree he simply doesnt “use” his playstation, coz then he would be an idiot….

lol I don’t use my PlayStation 3 as much as I’d like because the controller and OS sucks balls… The games are awesome but sometimes getting into the game is more pain than it’s worth.
They’ve greatly fixed most of the issues if you are a PSN+ user but if you aren’t then the patching and updates is insane
