Is SimCity coming to consoles?

SimCityConsoles

EA have teamed up with Crest toothpaste in the States to offer some new DLC for all those gamers who pop out to their local shops to pick up a tube of toothpaste. Some sites are taking offense with this for ethical reasons but I do think that’s going a bit far.

It’s not the first time a video game company has offered something like this and really I see nothing wrong with putting gaming in front of the mainstream shopping audience. I seriously doubt I would change my brand of toothpaste just to get some tourist attraction in SimCity but it’s cheaper than most DLC so yeah each to their own.

However what is interesting is that the minisite dedicated to this promotion, https://crest.ea.com/ has a picture of a PS3 and Xbox 360 on it.

Now if the site was setup by Crest I could imagine their marketing team not realising that SimCity is a PC only title but this site is hosted on the EA domain and you would expect them to know the difference.

So has the marketing guy accidently revealed the upcoming console ports to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, that he’s seen in house, or is this just a stupid mistake?

It could, perhaps,  help explain the small city size?

Ah! So that’s why the game was dumbed down in regards to city size and all that jazz. To fit on console!
Just like Diablo3 was made easier to play so it could work on console!

Look, I am all for all platforms getting all games but the reality is some games just aren’t meant to go cross-platform. Just like a fighting game is absolute shite on a PC with no controller, the same goes for games like this without a keyboard and a mouse.

Man, if you have to reduce the quality of your product just so you can have them on differant platforms then you need to rethink your strategies.

Also, I bet the console version will have no always on requirement

disclaimer: Yeah the picture is most likely just a mistake or a way to appeal to the mass market. The mommies and daddies of the world generally associate PC’s with work and consoles with games. So probably just this toothpaste company using their own view of marketing to do this.

PS: Sims is on console right? So the console pictures are there because the orange stickers also offer things for the Sims. Not just SimCity.

A console version of SimCity is not in the works, Electronic Arts has confirmed.
“Sadly, there are no current plans to move SimCity to console,” reads a tweet from the official SimCity account.

FAIL. I knew a production girl who ordered 200 PSPs for a PS2 comp. She just did not know the difference. Nobody knows the difference anyway… except for the 3% of gamers who research on-line everyday.

Hence the reason why the Wii-U is going to FAIL. Unless they pull their fingers out and do a better job explaining WTF a Wii-U is.

There were Wii-U promo’s at the major malls in Durban BUT Ninty decided to show off their latest kiddy friendly Mario game. People just walked past like they’ve seen this crap before.

“upcoming console ports” – porting the game to console implies it was designed for PC. If it makes it console, it will be clear that it was in fact designed with console in mind and dumbed down, as was the case with DiaBLOWS 3!
