DOOM gets the full suite of PC settings

The DOOM open beta wrapped up just under a week ago, and iD Software is now full steam ahead with making sure that their reinvigorated, nostalgic shooter is all ready and prepped for May 13th. PC players in particular weren’t too impressed with the beta offering and its restrictive settings, which locked the framerate and disallowed any sort of tweaking for the open weekend. iD Software promised that it would change before launch, and they’re not planning on breaking that promise.

Addressing the PC version of the game directly, iD Software has detailed all the setting and sliders you’ll be able to dabble with to get hell looking as gorgeous as possible on your new rig. With iD themselves being traditionally a PC developer, they wanted to ensure that DOOM runs at its best on some of the best hardware out there, while also giving PC players the sort of customisable freedom with certain settings that they’ve come to expect.

So you can look forward to field-of-view sliders, 21:9 ultra wide support and more, along with a host of advanced graphical settings below that will let you optimise the frantic shooting experience to your liking.

  • Manually Lock Framerate (un-locked by default)
  • Lights Quality
  • Chromatic Aberration Toggle
  • Shading Quality
  • Post Process Quality
  • Particles Quality
  • Game F/X Quality
  • Decal Quality
  • Directional Occlusion
  • Reflections Quality
  • Depth of Field Toggle
  • Decal / Texture Filtering
  • Motion Blur Quality / Toggle
  • Sharpening Amount
  • Lens Flare Toggle
  • Lens Dirt Toggle
  • Texture Atlas Size
  • Show Performance Metrics
  • Resolution Scaling
  • UI Opacity
  • Film Grain
  • Rendering Mode
  • FOV Slider
  • Simple Reticle
  • Show First-person Hands Toggle
  • Use Compute Shaders
  • Vsync (support or triple buffering)

DOOM might have done itself a little damage with the open beta, especially after fan response was not as overwhelmingly positive as Bethesda expected it to be. Still, the game is looking visually impressive from the gameplay trailers we’ve seen, and I personally liked the modernisation of traditional arena shooter tropes in the beta.

Whether that all cohesively comes together to create a product that is worthy of the DOOM name is yet to be seen. but we’ll know soon enough when DOOM launches on Xbox One, PS4 and PC next month.

Despite all the negative reviews after the Beta I am still looking forward to this.

I make a decent salary so this is CE material. As is Overwatch. Yet I can’t convince myself to get a PS/Xbone cause that is just wasteful spending. 😛

And now that consoles get *upgraded faster than mid range PC’s. It is the more expensive gaming platform 😛

Specially since games are still R800.

Some are R900. But a month or two later they can be cheaper. A lot cheaper. Got Far Cry Primal for R600 which was R1200 at launch

All you need to do is message me whenever you are ready. We can clear Hard Mode with 3 people and a carry. (Not the Moba term)

We had a server crash and the only backups available were from last year. Lost a month of my life recovering data

Well that is why you never run Raid 0 alone. At the very least Raid 0+1.

“Zion (Hebrew: ???????? ?iyyôn), also transliterated Sion, Sayon, Syon, Tzion or Tsion, is a place name often used as a synonym for Jerusalem. The word is first found in 2 Samuel 5:7 which dates from c.630–540 BC according to modern scholarship.”

Now I am really confused xD

I’m still debating whether or not to wait to buy this until I have a better graphics card. I know it runs on my PC thanks to the beta, but do I want to spend the money now, or wait until I get the full glorious graphics and get it on sale towards the end of the year?

    Idk, tough choices.

Oh wait, I can’t afford it now.

    That was easy.

Perhaps folks are a little confused as to what the difference is between a demo and an open beta. The one you are a tester and the other you are previewing. Its not the same concept in any sense what so ever. I don’t get why it got so much hate considering what it was. I had an utter blast, and that was on PS even (I’m getting the PC version though).
