Cutting game content is tough, says Dragon Age writer

Cutting content from your own game sucks – but like with film, games need editing too. Without editing, videogames would all be filled with pointless drivel. Or be made by David Cage. Dragon Age: Inquisition writer David Gaider has said that cutting content is tougher than gamers might imagine.

Speaking on his tumblr, Gaider said the game is now in alpha, meaning it’s “content complete” – and the team is now focused on making that content actually work, and making sure the story flows.

“This is a pretty stressful time for everyone,” Gaider said. “Every cut feels like it’s reducing the overall quality of the game, until there are so many of them you feel like you’re producing a piece of crap—until you remind yourself that every game goes through this, and the alternative is shipping late or not at all.”

Gaider said that it’s not something fans can readily comprehend.

“They’re usually oblivious to what’s going on, harping on what color the sails should be while the hull is rapidly leaking water,” he said. “Which is a strange dissonance from our perspective, let me tell you.”

Of course, any content that ends up being excised will likely end up being shoved back in as DLC, right? We’re now about six months away from Dragon Age: Inquisition’s release. The game has us rather excited..especially since we heard that The Witcher 3 would be delayed to 2015.

Dragon Age: Inquisition is set to interrogate your PC, Ps3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One in October. The Wii U does not expect the Spanish Inquisition.

“and the alternative is shipping late”

Here’s an idea: don’t cut so much content. Polish it all up and rather release a complete solid game a little late than a buggy unfinished game where the cut content will be DLC anyway …..

Yeah, look at what happened to KotOR 2. I would have gladly waited another year for a more full game

Unfortunately, I doubt it’s really that easy hey. A lot of games have cut content, hell some games still has it in the code. Delays hurt the games as well, so it’s a very thin line they have to walk. NO game designer wants to see their creative work cut from the final product. Publishers are the evil ones that force this (Most of the time)

That would be nice and all if BioWare wasn’t owned by freaking EA. EA doesn’t give a damn if you’re not done yet. They support your project financially and expect you to be done within a certain time limit and if you don’t make it, you’re basically screwed.

Well, if they add original and new content it should be okay.
So, yes, pretty much cut the whole game then. 😉

“the alternative is shipping late” said no one to an EA executive ever.

Glad I wasn’t the only one to think they’d simply put most of the cut content back in as DLC.

A new gaming pad distinctly unique and superior to any tablet PC!(Sanemax CF707)

With the spread of Android gaming tablets, more and more people are using tablets.
With this in mind, Sanemax have developed the CF-707 Game Pad. This nifty game
pad features television, tablet PC and gaming console capabilities, and we
believe that it will bring you an absolutely unparalleled experience!

    The latest Android 4.4.2 OS, a high-performance RK3188 CPU, a strong Mali 400 MP4 GPU, 2 GB RAM/16 GB ROM,
5000 mAh big capacity battery, 360 degree professional 3D joysticks, supporting
TV-BOX, WIFI Display, 3G Dongle. Key Mapping, using Skype, and other hot
    functions.

    Not your regular tablet PC

This game pad features all the notable functions of a tablet PC such as receiving and sending emails, using
Skype, activating Google Play, playing various audio and video formats, looking
at pictures, reading E-books etc. The most notable difference is the way that
the games are played. On an ordinary tablet PC, this is necessarily confined to
a touch screen. On the CF-707, however, games can be played using four distinct
modalities: buttons, joysticks, key mapping and of course the usual touch
    screen.

    Television capabilities

It also can be used as a television.
Simply download one network TV broadcast application, like CCTV Live, then
connect to a wireless network or a wired one with an Ethernet cable. This
function is achieved by a USB cable connected as OTG. After this, connect a
HDMI cable. Your CF-707 is now a television. Enjoy!

    WIFI Display

Use the CF-707 as a WIFI display!
Connect via WIFI, open the WIFI Display application. This will then commence a
search for a wireless display device. Once found, click on the preferred
available device. The chosen device must also click ‘accept’ on its end. One
machine’s screen will then be displayed on the other’s.

    Key Mapping

With key mapping, you can link touch
screen buttons to physical ones. For some, this makes games easier to control.

    Plenty of games

8 kinds of emulators are supported. PS1,
N64, MAME, NES, GBC, GBA, SNES and SMD. You can also play Flash games, Android
games (including games that utilize gravity sensors; the CF-707 has a G-Sensor
built in). You may even play games via WIFI: with WIFI direct game, one player
starts a game as a server, and the other one joins as a client – no need to use
WIFI for this! If you connect to WIFI, play games online! You can also download
plenty of games using the Happy Chick app!

    360 degree professional 3D joysticks

    Compared to 2D joysticks, 3D
joysticks are more flexible! You will have more directions to control: up and
    down, left
    and right. It’s operated easily!
