Dude he's going to stab you

Mark Rubin, the Executive Producer of Call of Duty: Ghosts has forgotten how twitter works and has posted up a wall of text using one of those annoying twitlonger things… but I’m glad he did because he had some great news for us.

GHOSTS ONLINE CONNECTIVITY UPDATE: I wanted to give a quick update on some of the work that has been done to improve everyone’s online experience. We’ve already mentioned dedicated servers as part of the overall plan to improve connectivity. Dedicated servers will be used on current gen, next gen and PC with Ghosts. And, in order to make sure that people have the best possible experience regardless of platform, location or connection, Ghosts will be using a hybrid system of dedicated servers and listen servers. So no matter where you are the game will always be trying to give you the best online performance possible. There is also some great new tech in the matchmaking system that will place players in matches that have the best combined overall connectivity performance. Again these are just some of the things that are going into Call of Duty: Ghosts to give players a great online experience. Can’t wait to see you all online.”

He was asked further questions and apparently for some reason he cannot answer questions based on specific platforms but what he can say is that all version of Call of Duty: Ghosts will have dedicated servers. Now dedicated servers are great for PC gamers especially with local ISP’s like MWEB often hosting servers in our very own country but when it comes to consoles these servers often do not get hosted locally.

Which is why I’m hoping “listen servers” are what I think they are; basically servers that keep track of who is looking for a game and merging the guys in one region into a game even if no server exists.

But to be fair I really don’t know. Anyone else with some more knowledge around this care to share?

They’ll be okay. Just as long as you order some chips with that… And I am sure they thank you for your concern

I still want to have a manual way of choosing where I want to game, this has been a flaw since MW1, so many times I would search for local games and end up playing against a whole bunch of frogs 🙁

Back in the day a dedicated server was a server that had no one playing on it and a listen server was a server that was run by someone on their own machine and also playing the game.

So listen servers are probably going to be player created sessions from their own machines.

Ah okay, so basically I’ll be able to host local games if we have no local dedicated..

That’s the best way for us locals I think

Thanks for your insight! I have tried the VPS in Australia and having a VPS really is beneficial. Am using dedicated server at Palcom Online. It works 24×7 instant support.
