BioShock 2 Proves PC Gamers are Whiny, Impossible to Please

When games are made with consoles primarily in mind – and let’s be honest, this is an increasing trend – PC gamers will launch into a tirade about how developers are pandering to the larger console market, forgoing their roots, dumbing down games and saying rude things about their mums.

Doing their best to offset the PC gamer hate, BioShock 2 developers 2K Marin specifically tailored the game and its User Interface to meet the exacting standards of PC Gamers, and to better suit Keyboard/Mouse controls. In doing so, they nixed controller support from the game – inciting PC gamer hate.

“We made quite a number of significant changes to UI / HUD for the PC version of the game,” notes to Cult of Rapture’s BioShock PC Q&A. “The decision was made early on not to support controllers at all in order to ensure that we got the mouse and keyboard control absolutely right. This of course required a redesign of large parts of the UI and the player HUD. For example, we removed the Weapons and Plasmid Selection Radials in favor of a custom created Weapons Selection Strip which more accurately reflects the keyboard layout.”

You’d expect PC gamers to be happy about this. They regularly tout their favoured input method – The keyboard and mouse – as being vastly superior, and that control pads are for retards. They’re not though, as evidenced by the digital crying over at 2K’s message board.

2K has now confirmed that the game will pretty much never receive native controller support through any official patch or fix.

“I talked to the dev team about controller support for BioShock 2, and I want to let you know that we won’t be adding this into the game in a patch,” wrote a community representative on the same message board. “The decision not to support the controller was not made lightly, and to add it now would take a complete re-envisioning of the UI that the team worked so hard to create.

I understand that some PC gamers have their rigs attached to their large HDTV’s and would like to play from the comfort of their couches. Thing is? That’s what consoles are for.

Of course, if they did patch in controller support, there’d be a whole new bunch of hate directed at 2K, about how they’re dumbing games down, pandering to console markets blah blah yakkity shmakkity.

Truth is, today’s gaming community(Pc and console) consits of one big group of whiny tossers.
You’ll never be able to satisfy them no matter what you
    do. :ermm:
P.s. Any idiot Pc gamer (and I happen to be one of them)who wants to hook up his rig to a freaking 32+” LCD tv should at least think of purchasing a wireless keyboard and mouse?
Oh ja…and Edward definitely beats Dawson. Although with a whiny chick like that, I can understand why he’s so miserable 🙁
