Last week Nvidia surprised everyone with not only a very early reveal of their mainstream Pascal-based GTX 1060, but also an absurdly low price. The GTX 1060 is supposedly meant to be more powerful than a GTX 980 – the company’s flagship once upon a time – and will cost on;y $250 to do it. That’s State side at least, but we now know just how much you’ll be expected to throw down for the card in almost every other region.
Via a press release directly from Nvidia themselves, we now have confirmation on the Recommended Retail Pricing (RRP) of the GTX 1060 for when it enters multiple European, Asian and African markets on July 19th. Unsurprisingly, it’s far from a direct dollar conversion, and some regions can expect to pay a little more for the same power. The pricing below refers to custom cards produced by ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI and more (the Founders Edition this time will be a Nvidia Store exclusive).
- Serbian Dinar – RSD 34,999
- Czech Koruna – CZK 7,599
- Danish Krone – DKK 2,199
- Euro – EUR 234 (excluding VAT)
- Germany – EUR 279
- France – EUR 279
- British Pound – GBP 239
- Hungarian Forint – HUF 92,399
- Norwegian Krone – NOK 2,799
- Polish Zloty – PLN 1,279
- Romanian New Lei – RON 1,279
- Russian Rouble – RON 18,999
- Indian Rupee – INR 22,999
- Swedish Krona – SEK 2,899
- Turkish Lira – TRY 1,030
- South African Rand – ZAR 4,699
- Switzerland – CHF 274
- UAE – AED 1,100
Looking specifically at the South African price, an interesting scenario unfold. Obviously this pricing is subject to change slightly with retailers and distributors putting on their own margin, but as it stands the GTX 1060 is set to be considerably less than the AMD competition, the RX 480, locally. Right now an RX 480 will cost you just under a full grand more, which opens the market up to Nvidia. Especially if it does end up performing as promised (which would take it over and above the RX 480).
It’s the kind of position Nvidia finds itself in with this smart move, with the company finally realising that the mid-market space is where battles are won and lost. The GTX 1060 will have reviews dropping all over the place on July 19th, and we’re currently putting it through its paces to hit that embargo.

At that price – I’m buying. Let’s see what the retail prices are – and what the 3rd party manufacturers put together.

Pricing above is for third-party. Founder’s Edition won’t be sold locally 🙂

Yeah but based on cooler and overclock that price is subject to change 🙂

Yeah, I think this will be the ballpark for most though. Although some manufacturers locally have some super strange pricing.

If the prices sit around this mark, it’s really an easy purchase for me tbh. This is the price I was looking for, and the performance is a bonus. Even if it doesn’t quite hit 980 speeds (I’m waiting for reviews, including yours), it’s still great bang for buck.

Yeah that’s fair. But here I think it was more Nvidia outplaying AMD (despite the power issues) – finally realising that the mid-range area is a place they were failing at.

Most people are getting mid-range cards I’m guessing (and by ‘mid-range’ I lol)

Through a driver update, yes. But it still earned them some bad press.

I read the AMD press release yesterday about the imminent driver release that fixes the issue and it is a bit confusing.
Fixes the issues with 3% performance increase BUT looked like you need to turn on “Compatibility” with the new drivers to ensure card stays in spec which in turns drops performance by unknown X amount.

I pretty much let go of brand loyalty years ago. I now focus on best for the price and compatibility. It works out a lot better in all aspects. The only thing where I still go brand is Google stuff. Nexus, Google music etc… It is kind of my ecosystem for mobile.

I dont think they did, its just that nvidia solidly gave them the middle finger and shouted “WHAT YOU GNA DO ABOUT IT?”

Although, I didn’t pay for that one, was my last NVidia card before I jumped ship

Yeah man! Funny enough, that’s where I also jumped ship, went to a 3870 to a 4870 to a 5870 and then back to an nVidia Gtx 580 and ever since, 4 years or so it was good, then upgraded to the 970, now I’m wishing I’d held out another year or so…

Almost impressed by your timing, if you jumped ship back to nvidia one series earlier, you would have had the perfect run.
the 5xx0 series from AMD was pretty uninspiring, although quite long lasting, while at the same time the nvidia 4×0 series was quality, if you wanted to go into that R2500+ price category.

6600gt was a pretty epic card, completely overpowered and unnecessary for all games.
I wanted it so bad.
Saying that, the 260, 460ti and 550ti were also great cards.

The question is £239 inc or ex VAT. If it is inc vat and beats the 480 then I will buy a 1060, if it is ex vat then the 480 looks like the better bet.

According to the mail we’ve received it’s retail pricing – so inclusive of local taxes.

Unless they have much better yield/supply than the 1070 and 1080 had the retail prices of the custom versions will be more than the founders again. There’s of course every chance that the yields could be better than the gigantic high-end chips, but we’ll just have to see.
If the value is right…
