The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD Amiibo dungeon isn’t all that exciting

The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess Amiibo functionality revealed

Despite being incredibly well-made and frustratingly addictive to collect, Nintendo’s Amiibo program serves little more than being neat, colourful figurines. Their in-game functionality swings wildly between the mundane and annoyingly limited, with most games offering little to no incentive to even link the little pieces of plastic with them. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD is slightly different, although it does make cheating easier (and more expensive).

First things first though, that mysterious dungeon. For a while now Nintendo fans have been losing it over the possibility of a new dungeon in the Twilight Princess HD remaster, thanks to Amiibo functionality (and essentially physical DLC) with the Wolf Link Amiibo. Turns out it does unlock a dungeon in game, but only a slightly different version of the already present Cave of Ordeals.

Suitably subbed the Cave of Shadows, the dungeon acts as a high score playing ground, where you’ll have to try survive all old Ordeals as Wolf Link alone. Hardly worth the excitement over a new dungeon if you ask me.

If you happen to have the rest of The Legend of Zelda Amiibo collection, you’re in luck too. Tapping either Zelda or Sheik will replenish your hearts, while using Link or Toon Link will fill up your arrow quiver. The most interesting (and hence only valuable addition) is that of Ganondorf’s – who is able to make enemies deal twice the damage for your next life. That’s bound to make more hardcore Twilight Princess fans happy, even if you need an Amiibo to unlock it.

It’s again another confusing way to integrate Amiibo into Nintendo’s games, but thankfully I’m still pretty content in just collecting the darn things. If you’re expecting Nintendo to get a little smarter with how they’re used, well don’t hold your breath.
