Madness

You may have noticed the dearth of noteworthy games being released this month, or indeed next month. We’re in that slump. That changes a bit in September with the local release of the Xbox One, and of course, Destiny. Then in October, everything goes balmy. Just about every game you’re waiting for this year is out in that one little month. With the price of games and the time investment, we’re all going to be forced to ignore a few for now. Which ones will be taking the backseat?

If you’re blissfully unaware, the schedule for October is madness. Take a look.

October 3: Super Smash Bros. (3DS)
October 7: Alien: Isolation,  Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, NBA 2k15,  NBA Live 15
October 10: Dragon Age: Inquisition,  Driveclub
October 17: Borderlands: The Presequel, Raven’s Cry
October 21: Evolve
October 24: Battlefield Hardline, Evolve, Fantasia: Music Evolved, Just Dance 2015, The Evil Within, Civilization: Beyond Earth, Fantasy Life
October 28: Assassin’s Creed Unity, Sunset Overdrive
October 31: WWE 2K15, Lords of the Fallen

Bayonetta 2 and Project Spark will also be coming in October.

I’ve decided to give Dragon Age: Inquisition a skip; not because of EA’s policies or anything quite like that. Rather, it’s something I’d love to play in my own time when I have time off. Seems like a perfect December game to me. The sports stuff? Yeah, I can skip that too.  Same goes for the dancing.

That is, quite frankly, too many awesome games in too short a time. It means that something has to be ignored for now. Which games will you be ignoring, and which will you be getting on day 1?

The only game I’m really willing to buy day one will be Evolve. It seems like all kinds of fun and that will keep me playing for a month or two at least, giving the other games some time to drop in price!

Edit: MMmm, Lords of the Fallen may be a problem. I’m keeping an eye on that game. It has the potential to be awesome!

Everything but Dragon age and Evolve will be ignored. In fact I will have to liase with my sister in America just to get the damn codes for DA so I can play it without having to wait for my Inquisitors Editon to arrive.

    Also Evolve Community EVENT!!

Also Dammit why Civ as well??!!

I think it’ll be best to first see what the community reviews are for Shadows of Mordor, In other words, at least two weeks after release – as always, I’m going to ignore the big media reviews, those aren’t worth the toilet paper they’re written on.

I actually only want Evolve on that list, and I only want it because of the hype around it!! But if Destiny is as good and gives me the hours of fun as the Alpha did, then yeah I can skip all of them and just wait till December or even next year…. Oh and Fifa 15 for me, so between that and Destiny I think my hours for gaming will be covered for a while!!!

    Of those games listed
    – I will be getting Dragon Age: Inquisition (need to decide on console first though)
    – Might give WWE a look later to see if it has improved enough for me to buy (not pirating, waiting for reviews and video etc.)
    – Skipping NBA2K15 because I am still playing 2K14
The rest – couldn’t give a rats ass about any of them.

Comparing consoles to a disability? Classy hey. Why do PC crusaders always think they are better and think they have to chime in when someone says he wants a game on a console? I have a console AND a PC – I just prefer some games on my console and some on my PC. Games like DA I prefer to lie in my bed with a controller in my hand – yes I KNOW you can set up your PC in that way but I work on one the WHOLE day and want to get away from it a bit by playing on a console or table top!

antivirus updates itself with teeny tiny updates every day or so.
drivers update once in a blue moon, and can still play online without having to update.

It comes on the game disc – no need to be online, download anything or such nonsense. Plus the game is optimized for the hardware so no blue screens of death (none that I have experienced)

Yeah, it’s very stylized and so I suppose it will divide people. I don’t know, I like it – its weird and quirky. I always find it funny how pigs huddle after you with their stupid smiles and sleep by your camp fire if you feed them meat going “YOU FRIEND” “WHERE SUN GO?” “FIRE GOOD!”. That’s one thing though, irrespective of the graphical style, all the animations are wonderfully smooth. That is, its kind of crudely drawn in a sense, but it’s not crudely animated.

Borderlands, Dragon Age, and AC unity.
Driveclub will probably be next on the list.

Hardline, will probably skip, wait for an origin special or something

I know what you mean, however if I see DA: I in the second hand bin during November, it’s coming home with me. Second-hand sales mean EA doesn’t profit.

    OK I don’t know either.

only Dragon Age and Civilization: Beyond Earth for me, the rest I’m ignoring completely. I may consider Battlefield at a later stage but after the last battlefield pre beta launch debacle, I’m not that keen on being a tester for this version…

Well not according to EA execs – it DID NOT hurt the brand…at all! Clearly you (and I) think slightly differently on the subject.

Nothing on that list excites me. Short answer all of them. Long answer I still have about 15 games lying and waiting for me, that will keep me busy well into the next year, I can therefore wait for sales and price reductions before I consider buying any new games.

I usually only buy games when I’m finished with the current one. To have a 15 game backlog is unheard of for me, somehow life is starting to get in the way of gaming, which is sad.

My want-list in order of give-a-shit:

    Evolve,
    Civilization: Beyond Earth,
    Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor,
    Battlefield Hardline,
    Alien: Isolation,
    Dragon Age: Inquisition,
    Borderlands: The Presequel,
    Assassin’s Creed Unity.

I will get Evolve right off the bat, the rest I’m not sure about or need more info.

    October will break my wallet.

    Not really interested in DriveClub.

Raven’s Cry could be interesting but not at R500 – R700.

I loved Two Worlds 2, however…. let’s be honest Topware games always lack polish. and while they make decent B-grade RPGs…. the global recession has hit gamers hard. Game prices are insane these days, and it’s a lot harder to justify paying AAA game dosh for a B or C-grade title (no matter if you’re fan of their games) :/

Sheesh games are getting pricey now. Average PS4 now R800 to R900. I really wanted to buy Grid Autosport so trot off to local mall and blow me over = R800! And that is last gen and an “update” of Grid 2.

Needless to say I went home empty handed.

If budget gets tight always troll the console version of Steam sales. I hear GTA5 is on special somewhere.

Autosport and Grid 2 arent comparable at all.
its like comparing NFS to GT

its a good game, in terms of longevity, it will keep you busy much longer than any other single player PS4 game.

Seriously though I’ve never played any of these previous titles:

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Borderlands: The Presequel

But they have rave reviews, I’m wondering which would be worthy of my collection.

I’ll get DA, and I’ll wait for reviews on Shadow of Mordor,Lords of the Fallen.
Max I am picking up is 2.
I feel that gaming studios missed an opportuninty to make a lot of money by releasing something before September. Instead now, I will have to read comments from devs saying how the industry is going down, because their game failed to sell. Don’t these people have some kind of research teams, that can explain to them, that if everyone releases in the same month, customers will only buy 1 or 2 at the most.

I do not see the point to get AC Unity on release for PC. Ukak will force me to stop playing it for a month or two and then I lose interest in it. Happened to AC 4 … still did not finish it after the last screw up release.

So I will get DA:I and it will keep me busy for a month or two, then it is Middle Earth or Lords of Fallen that will keep me busy till Witcher 3 comes out.
