Pokemon

Sometimes, you can’t just rely on a Pokémon’s natural development tree in order to train up a massive badass. Sometimes, your Zigzagoon which you’ve cunningly named Ziggy Stardust, needs a little performance enhancer. Like most athletes who avoid urine tests, the latest Pokémon games are full Teaching Machines. And here’s where you can find them.

Remember, use CTRL+F if you’re looking for a specific TM/HM:

Hidden Machines

Much like that terrible tattoo that I got one night when I catastrophically drunk, Hidden Machines are for life. It’s never a good idea to teach one of your primary Pokemon a few HMs, and always better to have an HM slave that exists to surf, dive or fly your ass to where you need to be. Locations for HMs are:

  • HM01 Cut Inside the Cutter’s House in Rustboro City
  • HM02 Fly Received as a gift from your rival on Route #119
  • HM03 Surf Received as a gift from Wally’s Father (Balance Badge required)
  • HM04 Strength Received as a gift from your rival on Route #112
  • HM05 Waterfall Acquired from Gym Leader Wallace in Sootopolis City
  • HM06 Rock Smash Received as a gift from Wally’s Uncle in Mauville City
  • HM07 Dive Received as a gift from Steven in Mossdeep City (Mind Badge required)

Wasn’t part of the lure of Pokemon games not knowing where things are and then randomly coming across them after exploring a new section you previously couldn’t access?

I mean I remember the first time I came across Zapdos in Yellow. I nearly lost it ‘coz I didn’t know I would find Zapdos there.
Also with some of the stronger moves in the game. Coming across that TM that you wanted was always awesome.

It’s all about the adventure. One shouldn’t spoil it for one-self by finding out where everything is before hand.

100% right. Although some days, you need that Flamethrower TM, because the voices in your head keep telling you to burn down the Elite 4 HQ. Or so I hear.

Pokemon is in *dire* need of something akin to a quest log. I’ve been complaining about this for I don’t know how many generations.

Had to put the game down for an emergency last night and all I could remember when I got back today was thinking that I needed Dive. No idea where to get it. This page saved me a lot of frustration.

Also, gratz on being a dad. You sound excited.

When you boot up a save it tells you the last few things you did doesn’t it?

But that’s also part of the lure of Pokemon. You don’t know exactly where the stuff is you require. Having it simply given to you is defeating the point. What would a pokemon game be if you didn’t have to backtrack a few times to see if you missed something because you don’t have the correct HM.
And thanks, yeah I am excited to be a dad 🙂

        PS: Raptors rule!
