Seeing as I’m not the biggest fan of horror titles, it’s no surprise that I’ve completely missed out on the terror that is Outlast. I’ve heard many a tale of pant pooping from friends regarding the game, so naturally, I’ve avoided it at all costs. Look, I’m a coward, and I don’t need that sort of trauma in my life! There are far braver gamers out there however, who are no doubt purchasing fresh underwear as we speak, all in preparation for the sequel, Outlast 2.
Outlast 2 was first announced back in October 2014, and now, it’s closing in on release. If everything goes according to plan, the developers, Red Barrel Games, will have it launched toward the end of this year, around September or so.
Those looking for more psychiatric hospital scares may be sorely disappointed though. This new story is ditching the dark, creepy passageways for… cornfields? It certainly seems so, based on this new gameplay footage that Gamespot nabbed at Pax East this past weekend.
Outlast 2 revolves around some cult or sort, and based on the footage above, its followers don’t seem particularly pleased to see you. That cornfield seems well surrounded by enemies and their probing lights – any hope of escape is incredibly slim!
Even though (SPOILER ALERT) nothing terrifying actually happened in the video, the atmosphere and the like is spot on. I was on the edge of my seat for its duration, all in preparation for a potential jump scare. None occurred, but I’m sure there will be plenty of them throughout the game’s campaign.
Are you excited for Outlast 2? Will you be getting it on release? I can honestly say that I have zero interest. I am intrigued by the story however, and would love to know how this sequel fits into the whole Outlast universe. That being said, I don’t think I’ll ever play this game, not ever!
