Hitman complete collection (2)

I’ve been shouting it from the rooftops to anyone who would listen, that IO Interactive’s Hitman is an absolutely superb stab in the genre of stealth and infiltration. Thing is, episodic games don’t gel well with a lot of people, even if I do think that Hitman is a brilliant proof of concept of how to handle the model properly.

Hell, some people have this idea that they don’t have to have a game when it’s new, opting to wait a bit and grab a complete collection when it’s available. A very wise decision then, because Hitman: The Complete First Season has a release date of January 31 2017 now for PC, Xbox One and PS4. IO Interactive announced the final release date for this physical collection which gathers everything released so far into one convenient bundle.

Here’s what your cash-money will be getting you in the field of death by barcoded baldy bastard:

Hitman complete collection (1)

  • Three Bonus Missions from the Summer Bonus Episode, which includes ‘The Icon’ and ‘A House Built on Sand’ missions, plus the brand new upcoming ‘Landslide’ mission
  • Original Soundtrack featuring the original game score
  • The ‘making of’ HITMAN documentary charting the journey from showing the game to our fans for the first time before E3 2015, through to the digital launch in 2016
  • HITMAN Requiem Blood Money Pack which includes the signature Blood Money white suit, white rubber duck and chrome ICA pistol

The core game itself is built around six distinct locations: Paris, Italy, Morocco, Thailand, the USA and Japan. Four of those episodes have been released so far, with a summer bonus episode for good measure as well, elusive targets on a regular schedule and various escalation contracts. It’s been bloody good stuff as well, because I’m pretty certain that no other game released so far this year has allowed me to poison some pasta and then kick the vomiting victim off of a cliff to his grisly demise.

That’s game of the year material that is.

  1. Episodic gaming can jump off a roof. Yes! I’m also looking at you Telltale… Much like with the Tomb Raider sequel, I don’t like being mined for salt, and thus this will be a bargain bin purchase for me.

Now that I’d buy. I don’t have a problem with companies releasing games in episodes, but I’m not buying until the game is complete. I want to play the entire game at once, then move on. Coming back to it every few months for a new episode is not my cup of tea.

Listen to Trevor – he may like to probe cattle, but he’s on point here!

Exactly this, I want to pay money once for a full game, not play a mini demo every now and again…

It feels like going backwards, people love to binge watch TV series more, now that that is feasible via streaming. Now in gaming they are doing the opposite, chopping it up into smaller pieces that we now have to wait for.

Don’t get me wrong I’m sure development wise it’s a smart move, but as a consumer I’d prefer to “binge” watch/play over any episodic release.
