Dishonored 2 is available today to everyone who didn’t pre-order for early access, and it’s likely you’ve already heard of some of the issues plaguing the PC version of the stealth title. For the most part, PCs with mid-range hardware seems to be having massive problems keeping a consistent framerate, with GTX 970 powered machines in particular being a sticking point. It’s a problem, but Bethesda have followed up with a few tips.
For the most part it’s the standard “have you decreased your settings and checked your drivers” spin, but for now it’s all that’s really available to you as a player if you running into some issues. There’s also some new tech that Dishonored 2 shipped with, including an adaptive resolution slider that might be doing your game more harm than good. If you’re unsure, you can follow some of the steps below – and hopefully have your game respond in kind.
General recommendations
- Avoid using Alt-Tab when playing. Relaunch the game if you see performance dropping after using Alt-tab.
- Avoid having background applications running in addition to the game.
Video Settings
- If you have performance issues, try lowering the resolution.
- Use 1440p resolution only if you have a very high-end GPU ( GTX 1070/1080 or equivalent)
- Keep the V-Sync activated, especially if you have large framerate fluctuations.
- If you have framerate under 30 fps, adjust the “Adaptive Resolution” between minimum (50%) and default value (75%).
Advanced Settings
- Use the “Auto” presets: this should adjust your visual settings without impacting your framerate.
- If you still have performance issues with “Auto” presets:
- Try deactivating the “TXAA Anti-Aliasing”
- Try lowering the texture details
Bethesda are apparently looing into these issues already, so it’s likely a patch will arrive in the near future to address the numerous problems players are facing on some of the most popular PC hardware out there. But for the time being you’re going to have to settle for a less than stellar port – which no one could’ve warned you about beforehand.

“lowering the texture details”…are you even listening to yourself?!? PC gamers don’t “downgrade”. We hit that sweet sweet 60 fps or else the netcode is screwed and our “rigs” are not the problem.

So by only mentioning Nvidia cards, does it mean only they get problems? 😛

Nah the AMD cards can’t even run the game, so no point. 😉

Here’s the simplest fix. DON’T preorder games! Buy it later for cheaper and when it’s stable

So their “fix” is to try all the logical things that any person who has ever played a pc game would’ve done already? Riiiiiiight 🙂
