Final Fantasy XV – Astral Summons guide

Leviathan 1

Sometimes, bringing a sword to a tank fight is a bad idea. Especially in the world of Final Fantasy XV, as Noctis and his pals usually face all manner of beasties who can shrug off any magical or physical attack that you can throw at them. Hell, it’s like trying to stop a hurricane by farting at it. That’s when you bring out the big guns, guns the size of your mom mountains that can level the playing field and then some.

They’re called Astrals, and buddy these aren’t your uncle’s Guardian Forces. In Final Fantasy XV, there’s a grand total of six Astrals to call upon in battle:

  • Bahamut
  • Carbuncle
  • Leviathan
  • Ramuh
  • Shiva
  • Titan

Here’s how you can find them and the conditions needed to summon them:

Bahamut

Bahamut

While five of the Astrals on this list can be summoned when the time is right, Bahamut’s activation is tied to the story of Final Fantasy XV, briefly available in all of his dragonic glory for a fleeting moment in time. Still totally worth it however.

Carbuncle

More of a bonus ally than anything else, Carbuncle is a reward from completing the Platinum PS4 demo for Final Fantasy XV. Once transferred over, Carbuncle can be summoned when your party is in an extreme danger scenario and require some first aid assistance to revive and heal your party members in battle.

Leviathan

Leviathan

This majestic water elemental Astral will become unlocked after chapter 9 when defeated by Titan, but can only be summoned when Noctis and his party are in danger near a body of water. Additionally, Noctis will need to have entered a Danger state, battle must have been waged for a while and at least one ally must be in need of a revival to harness the full force of Leviathan’s water and blizzard magic.

Ramuh

Ramuh

The lightning Astral can be unlocked after you spend some time in Fociaugh Hollow during the campaign. Ramuh will appear to lend you aid if your battles begin to drag on.

Shiva

Shiva

The mighty mistress of the Diamond Dust attack will be unlocked after chapter 12, but summoning her into battle requires plenty of conditions. Like the Leviathan summon, you’ll need to be near a body of water, have Noctis in a Danger state and at least one party member waiting for a revive. The battle will also need to have had several minutes pass by before Shiva lends a hand, but her overwhelming power should end any battle.

Titan

Titan

An earth elemental, Titan can be unlocked after chapter 4 after you defeat him during the Archean quest. Titan will race to your assistance whenever an ally is knocked out cold.

Wish they would bring back the insanity that was Bahamut Zero. See those enemies? Blast them and the quarter of the planet they’re on into dust……

I really don’t like that these summons are so conditional.
“If you stand on your head while whistling the tune from Jaws, and you’re close to water, and your pants are a round your ankles, and you’re wearing your special Bugs Bunny boxer shorts (the ones withOUT the carrots), then you can summon these awesome creatures!”

Agreed being able to freely summon is best to get you out of a pinch. I’m not a fan of this new system where you may or may not get assistance from a summon.

So Carbuncle is a reward for finishing the demo. If the PlayStation I’m playing on is a different new one, do I just need to somehow get my save onto my PS4 to proof that I played it?

People are saying you can only summon Leviathan near a body of water, but i manage to summon him in the middle of the desert.
