Cancelled P.T spiritual successor Allison Road has been resurrected

Despite hating horror games with every fibre of my being, I am genuinely sad that Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro’s Silent Hills project got no further than their P.T. demo. That teeny vertical slice of gameplay was packed with unbelievable detail, and it scared the pants off of me! Look, I’d probably never (ever, EVER) play the final product if it ever released, but I do feel that the horror genre was unfairly robbed when the game’s cancellation was announced.

It wasn’t all doom and gloom at least. Following its cancellation, a load of P.T. inspired titles began to surface. One in particular, Allison Road, seemed especially promising. Here’s some original prototype gameplay in case you’ve forgotten why.

Allison Road had a Kickstarter campaign running before it was snapped up by publishers Team17 in October last year. All looked well for the horror title, and then, sadly it got canned a few months ago. Here’s the official reason why, ripped straight from the official Facebook page:

Hi all,

After a long consideration between Team17 and ourselves, we have reached a mutual agreement to end our collaboration on publishing Allison Road under Team17’s Games label. Sometime things pan out differently than expected as game development and publishing have so many layers of complexity…

We’d like to especially thank everyone for their support through-out, it has and will always be appreciated!

With no publisher, and only a half completed Kickstarter campaign, Allison Road was essentially dead. Yet, unlike the P.T. that inspired it, it was not destined to stay that way it seems. The game’s creator Christian Kesler has now told IGN that he will continue to work on the project alone, under a new studio – Far From Home (via PC Gamer).

“It did take a bit of soul searching to find the drive again to work on Allison Road and to simply make a call on what to do next. After the set back, I took a bit of a break from working on it and re-evaluated all the work that had been done so far — the whole journey, so to speak. I started making a few (in my opinion) necessary changes to the story and the flow, little bits and pieces here and there, and before I knew it, it sort of naturally came back to life.”

This is great news for horror fans no doubt. It’s terrible for me however, as I’ll probably have to review Allison Road when (and if) it eventually ships. At least I have ample time to stock up on clean underwear!
