ARK has received a new dinosaur and a grappling hook

KAKAAAAW

ARK: Survival Evolved continues to… evolve. Yeah, I just did that. I’ll show myself out!

Seriously though, the latest update for the dino riding simulator is out, and it includes some pretty sweet new content. Here’s an overview of what patch 235 entails (via PC Gamer)…

The Terror Bird

The Terror Bird, also known as the Phorusrhacidae Rapidesultor, is a ferocious but tamable avian capable of high-speed sprints and brief hover-like leaps. It is not a flying bird per se as its flight is comprised of short, sustained “Joust”-like glides or leaps. At eight to 12 feet tall, the Terror Bird is aggressive, but still tamable and ridable, making it an excellent combat mount, particularly for harassing and scouting.

Try say that word with me. Phoru… Phorush… Phorushasiday? Bah, screw it – it’s a Terror Bird dammit!

The Grappling Hook

Grappling Hooks make everything 25461% more fun and badass. FACT! Just look at Batman for example. Take away his grappling hook and what does he become? NOT Batman that’s who (Editors note: LIES. FILTHY LIES). Can you imagine him trying to make an escape or  get the jump on an enemy without this trusty tool? Of course not!

Now, the very same tool that makes the caped crusader awesome is available in ARK. Everybody can be Batman! Imagine using the grappling hook in conjunction with all the various dinosaurs. Sounds amazing, right? Well, now it’s a reality.

The Grappling Hook is a game-changing tool enabling Survivors the ability to scale cliffs, hitch a ride by attaching to a flying creature, wrangle other players/prisoners, or even small creatures to drag along! Learning how to regularly use this tool will alter the nature of your attacks and dramatically expand the range of your travels with greater ease and fun!

BATMAN

All the other not-as-cool-as-the-new-dinosaur-and-grappling-hook stuff

  • Tribe Alliances (PvE and PvP). Yes, finally, small Tribes can band together against larger ones!
  • Fishing Upgrade! Coelacanth Nutritia, common name Coel, are now different sizes (and give different amount of resources depending on the fish size…gives the rare chance of a super-large catch!)
  • Fully Localizable Game Text: Now you can crowd-source translation and dynamic fonts for any language without Modding/TC’s!
  • All current Items added to the Master Items ID array

And yeah, that’s patch 235 in a nutshell.

ARK really is one of those games I should play at some point in my life. In fact, now is as good a time as any – it’s on sale as part of the Steam Lunar New Year Sale. For only R214, I can be Batman riding a dinosaur. AWESOME!
