E3 is done and dusted. Over. As I write this it’s a warm night in Los Angeles, Darryn and I are just about ready to pack up our stuff for one last sleep in our (very) dodgy hotel room before heading off to the airport in the wee hours of the morning. From our perspective it’s been a cracker of an E3.
We’ve seen a bunch of next-gen things – and that extends beyond just (really) shiny graphics to some really cool new ideas for the future of games. Different sorts of social connectivity, a huge focus on companion and second screen gaming. We’ve skipped all the parties and dinners to bring you as much news as we could – but our hands on and previews are far, far from over.
That ramble aside, what have you though of E3 this year? Has it been better than ones previous? Is E3 relevant again? Has anything you’ve seen or heard out of E3 impressed you?

PS4 no DRM and free to swap used titles.
EPIC WIN.
Also all the new games look incredible…..on BOTH consoles!

I think Nintendo’s idea of bringing E3 to Best Buy was an excellent idea. Not having a proper press conference wasn’t, but I’m convinced that was mostly because they had little to show on stage.
It would be great having a few games at BTGames next year. It might happen in the far future.

I think its better to tone it down if you do not have something major to reveal than standing on stage taking pot shots at your big toe.

I was very impressed with this E3 – tons of games that I found interesting. Nice to see such wide variety and tons of new IP. I’m looking forward to this year in gaming – gonna be a good one!

Actually, now that you mention it; though the MS conference wasn’t great, their choice in titles this year reflects a bit of awareness that variety is necessary. We did see a copious amount of Shooters, but there wasn’t THAT much time spent on it, they even threw in an interesting Indie game.

It;s been a very cool E3 but I do feel that it was a little too console-centric. I felt a little left behind as a PC player

I was expecting a lot of console news. But when looking at E3 on a larger scale there were nearly no PC-related things anywhere. Exclusives? New tech? I know nVidia had a little thing but no idea about AMD.
I was hoping for at least a bit more PC things at E3. Maybe I just missed all the PC news?

No I know what you mean, I don’t really remember anything that was PC specific. Only thing that springs to mind as close to that was Witcher 3, which we already all knew about.

What can you expect with 2 consoles pushing release around the same time. MS and Sony would have tackled their third-party connections to give them a leg up over the competition. I saw a lot of multiplat PC games this year, but neither console maker would want third parties to elaborate on what is truly exclusive.

By far the best E3 in a long time. Loved the direction gaming is going in. Usually first gen of games on new consoles are exactly what we’ve been having with better graphics, this time there was some new interesting little innovations. I liked that a lot.

I think last gen was the advent of the online platform. This gen is streaming, cloud updates, and inter-device connectivity. It was, definitely, a great E3.

Microsoft should have gone all digital , dropped the blu ray player and kinect to make the console $299 , and games $30 , that would have been something to talk about , and a better offering than what they gave. Ps4 did what I expected , but came in cheaper than I thought .

My E3 Synopsis:
1.) Main focus on console war.
2.) I think we are getting too many sequels and not enough new IP.
3.) I was disappointed in the Xbox delivery and frankly arrogant and draconic DRM policy.
4.) I was impressed by the Exclusives for the Xbox, awesome looking games, jealous!
5.) PS4 won the E3 console battle, but I had to say they used the Xbox’s flaws to highlight the PS4 features, sad we respond to anti-opposition pushes like that.
6.) PS4 pushed the indie angle, I liked that.
7.) I really want to play Destiny now, hurry up already!
P.S. LG coverage was superb.

Ignoring the massive elephant in the room, I thought Microsoft put on a decent show this year. It wasn’t as embarrassing as previous years, where they floundered while trying to make Kinect cool… Thankfully, they didn’t rope in some B-list celebrity or pop star. It was all about the games, and although a few of them left me underwhelmed, that Dead Rising 3 video brought a smile to my face (that changed once I heard that Capcom gutted the game to make it accessible to the COD crowd.. but alas… at the time, I was all smiles)
SONY stole the show…again. I watched their conference yesterday, because I missed it because of the time difference, and they really brought their A-game. I still need to watch Nintendo’s conference, but I’m saving that one for the weekend.
In general, I thought E3 2013 was good. Definitely better than the last three years worth of E3s. I definitely think that they hit a spectacular low last year, but with the new consoles, and the new next gen games, it left me pretty excited.
I’ll give E3 2013 a B+ grade.

I thought it rocked hard! Lots of games coming, and yes, the fun of the console ‘wars’, which always gets a giggle. Also, well done to all the LG staff that put so much time into this. If I had to sit with only terrestrial television while I ate my dinner and no tweets on what’s happening at the E3 I may have murdered more people than I actually did. Also, loved the livestreaming through the site. That you can keep doing. One thing that would have been fantastic would have been some interviews. I don’t suppose you did that? I know the internet connection sucked worse than Darryns table manners, so perhaps we have something to look forward to?

Well, I think someone needed to reign in Nomura-san. I think he would have sat on versus XIII for at least another 5 years if he had his way. And it would have been an exclusive. He was pretty vocal about that before. I assume their lack of results got him in trouble, leading him to give up his Sony favouritism.

One of the more memorable E3’s in a while. Was happy to see some new IP even though there wasn’t nearly enough of it, as usual. The EA Battlefield 4 gameplay demo was the most amazing thing I’ve seen in a long time.
