Flamebait Friday Debate – The Scariest Game You Have Ever Played

As many of our avid readers know, I have garnered a reputation of being a super pink-underpants wearing pansy for not being able to finish Dead Space. Until I do finish it, I will have to happily live with that title, and that’s fair enough.

I don’t usually have a massive problem with scary games, I actually really love them (Dead Space just hits a nerve I didn’t even know I had) and can really think back to some scary or tense moments in games like Resident Evil 2 and Undying as some of my most favorite gaming moments of all time.

I am currently playing through Alan Wake and have completely immersed myself in the tense and menacing atmosphere that the game brings and in honour of it’s local release today, I have highlighted this fantastic genre for our debate.

So it’s up to you to share your opinion and campfire ghost stories. What’s the scariest game you have ever played, and why?

The Suffering on my old PS2… The flashbacks were freaky as hell.

One scary gaming moment that continues to stand out for me is the haunted mansion in Vampire the Masquerade : bloodlines.

Freaked me the fuck out. Otherwise the scariest game has to be (Super) Street Fighter Iv. that moment where you just know you’ve duffed your ultra and will be on the receiving end of pain is pure terror. 😉

Doom 3 freaked me out and The Shalebridge Cradle level in Thief: Deadly Shadows… 100% terror!
Two of the best scary games I have ever played have to be Hidden: Source and Zombie Panic! Source both are on the Half Life Source engine and are free if you own Half life 2. They are only multiplayer but I find that a human can scare me way more than any AI can.

Haunted mansion in Vampire Masquerade : Bloodlines as well. It terrified me, as well as my RAM due to the games notorious memory leak.

    Project Zero.
or better known as fatal frame.

Played this on the xbox, and the setting and atmosphere was just perfect.

Eternal Darkness on the Gamecube, that game completely freaked me out.

Avp series gave me a few good screams, but for the current generation, it has to be Dead Space.

The sanity stuff in Eternal Darkness was effing brilliant. Anybody who didn;t havea cube, butwith a Wii really ought to try get their hands on Eternal Darkness.

And then they went and followed that up with Too bloody Human.

Silent Hill 2 is by far the most iconic horror I’ve ever played, however, it’s Silent Hill 4: The Room that scared the bejesus out of me. That flying witch thing… I never finished that game. I’m just too damn scared.

Silent Hill 2 by a country mile. Pyramid Head coming after you is not something you want to experience at 3a.m.

Well i got a few scary games that freaked me out a bit.

    1. The darkness
I loved this game! Like the only way to kill those nazi zombies was by eating their hearts. awesome stuff!

    2. Alone in the dark
running around in Madison sqaure garden with Humanz chasing u like Alice in wonderland totally freaked me out.

    3.Dead Space
‘Nough said.. the opening sequence says it all!

    4.Silent Hill – Home coming
putting your hand into a hole in the wall, to get a teddy bear for your little brother. Not to mention with all those industrial sounds around made me so addicted to the game.. i got stuck for running out of ammo though… that sucked
