The International group stage matches: Day 4 roundup and main event standings

TI

Day 4 of the International group stage matches rounded up this morning, meaning we finally have an idea of what the main event is going to look like. Who stands the best chance of winning the biggest slice of the near $18 million prize pool?

Day 4

First off though, let’s take a quick look at what went down on Day 4 of the group stage matches (via GosuGamers):

Groups

Not much changed in Group A after day 3 bar some position shuffles in the top 4. Team Secret lost a game to MVP Phoenix, resulting in a draw which put them behind LGD. Complexity beat Cloud 9, meaning they now sit in 3rd. At the bottom of the group, nothing changed at all. My underdog team, Na’Vi are still in last place.

Group B saw a lot more shuffles. CDEC, though still performing pretty damn well for a wildcard team, lost out to Evil Geniuses, which kicked them off the top of the log to 2nd. Virtus Pro were in 3rd position after day 3, but a loss to EHOME kicked them down into the lower bracket. Meanwhile, previous TI champions Newbee drew two more games. This leaves them in second last place.

Here are the standings:

The Main Event

Here are what the final brackets look like (via the TI5 main page):

Final event

As you can see, those in the upper bracket have a far easier time ahead of them – needing only three wins to reach the grand final. Those in the lower bracket however, need six wins if they want to see that grand prize.

This weekend will see the teams practicing hard for the kick-off of the main event, which is next week Monday. If you’d like to follow the action, you can do so via the Dota 2 client itself, or by following any of these streams:

Though I’ll be away next week, I’m hoping to catch as much action as I can! What about you, will you be following the main event of TI5?

ArtStyle has been caught out of position SO many times for Navi (in almost every game) that it’s honestly the most frustrating thing to watch. To see a support like him struggle this way is really really sad. ESPECIALLY when you put him next to a short term replacement like SoNNeikO (who has played the best ES I have ever seen in my friggin life) and compare their contributions to a team like Navi.

That kinda sounds…. like he is a trolling salesman. Selling Trolls. To little old grannies.

Nope, no time to learn it properly. The closest I’ll get to Esports is Rocket League atm.

Rocket League is BALLS hard though… so I dunno… def more skill in that than a mid Leshrac. 😀

*Edit: Hehehehehehe. Balls hard. Because soccer. And cars. Hehehehe.

I only seen 1 of Na’Vi’s games which they won and then lost the next one. SoNNeikO was playing Earthshaker and Dendi was Lesh. Crazy how they were picking the other team apart. Was entertaining to watch

Apparently in an interview XBOCT said that SoNNeikO was one of the best players he has ever played with. And after watching that dude on his ES (and even later on Naga) I’d have to agree.

SoNNeikO is playing carry support for Navi. Feel bad for him cause he is playing so well… And after all his visa issues…

So I heard he wasn’t actually a permanent member of Navi. That they were just temporarily using him for TI5?

I’m not 100% sure tbh. I assume they drafted him in not long before TI (Prob around the qualifiers) as a kind of long term standin. But as I said, I have no idea. Battle to keep up with all the CIS teams and all their changes.

I hope they can fight through the lower bracket but looking at the standings, I think it’s a long shot

It’s Navi though. When do they ever NOT make it really tough for themselves?

            Still believing!

I’d be surprised if they even win their next match. They have just been so meh. I honestly think their next draft they should just pull out their best heros, ignore the meta, and go for glory. This meta doesn’t agree with them at all, so their no point trying to go with it.

How does the Newcomer Stream work? I’ve tried to watch it but it’s never on, is it only for the Main Event?
