Despite the insane amount of CS:GO tournaments lately, Matty keeps telling me that the only real eSport is Dota 2. It seems that sponsors feel the same way considering how they like to throw money at Dota 2 tournaments. This latest one is sponsored by Gigabyte in partnership with nAvTV and finally gives us some silver lining to the abysmal Rand value.
Running from 21-28 September, 16 teams will compete for a total prize pool of $2 000. Eight teams will be invited with a further eight teams able to go register over here. The first eight get a spot, so be sure to register ASAP if you play Dota and want to win money.
The prize pool is broken down as follows:
- $1 000
- $600
- $400
Considering the recent decline of the Rand/Dollar exchange rate, this tournament just became much more appealing. Based on current exchange rates, that 1st prize is worth R13 036. That’s sort of insane and would be incredibly depressing if it weren’t benefitting the winners. Time to enter all the dollar-based eSports competitions, guys; at least then the pay outs are exponentially higher than usual.
You’ll be able to watch the stream over here where they’ll also be giving away Arcanas and other goodies. Giveaways will also be happening on their Facebook page, so if you’re a Dota fan it might be worthwhile for you to start stalking nAvTV already.
Aren’t you all so impressed with my amazing ability to find a silver lining? I know the Rand is week, but at least it should help our eSports pros grow strong on foreign money, right?
