No more sign-ups for Dota 2

A room full of the people still waititng for Dota 2 access.

Free-to-play Dota 2, the immeasurably popular action RTS or Multiplayer online battle arena if you’re that sort of person, has until now been locked away behind a ridiculously long server queue. I didn’t have beta access, and applied soon after the game went live – but it took months of waiting. Now, there’s no more waiting.

Here’s what the Dota 2 blog had to say :

“For the past several months, access to Dota 2 has been granted through a queue system that gated entry into the community. We’ve used this system to gradually increase the size of our playerbase, as we ramped up our infrastructure and improved the experience for new players. As we have recently completed a set of server management upgrades as well as released a huge number of enhancements to the new user experience, we’re going to remove all restrictions to playing Dota 2.

Signups are no longer required to access the game, and we encourage everyone to join the 6.5 million active monthly users currently playing Dota 2. If you have a friend who hasn’t tried Dota 2 yet, be sure to take advantage of the new recruitment feature to get additional bonuses for both you and your friend.”

Funny thing is is that even though I’ve been granted access to the game, I have absolutely no desire to play it now. Maybe it’s because we want the things we can’t have, or maybe it’s just the game has a ridiculous learning curve, and I’m not in the mood to be reminded by the warm and loving Dota community how much of a n00b I am.

Either way, Dota 2 is now available to you all, if you want it. All you need to do is head to the Dota 2 page on Steam and get downloading.

I just hope they actively monitor the servers and increase capacity as needed. I know SA servers struggle every now and then still.

The servers on a regular day are fine, but when it comes to update time, yoh, stay away. trying to get a frostivus or regular dota game on friday/saturday was impossible.
The increased player load shouldnt be TOO significant, with 6.5 million players a month and the rest hating the game because butthurt, we’d be lucky to get to 7.5 million players a month.

After doing some reading I would rather go for the 8k chest before I go for the 25k shiny one… Items just do not seems that cool IMO

Just seems like too damn many shinys to waste on those items. Since you could probably get 2 8k chests for the same price as the 25k shiny one.

It is on untill 12 January or 19th.not 100% 😀 So you have plenty time to get both the 8k and the 25k 😉

Been playing Frostivus thingy — Nogal fun actually

I really think there is a market for a moba that focuses on many different types of maps like x hero siege and tower defence and that type of thing.

Lol, the roll over text is funny. I have never seen the appeal for a MOBA, it just looks so boring to play.

Geof, give it a try. In theory you should play against people your level and experience. Don’t play ranked either. That would give them more reason to call you a noob.

He wont be able to play ranked. You need at least 150 games under you belt to be able to play ranked 😉
Hence keeping the total noobs out from there. ( in theory )

oh come on Geoff. Why always put n00p and Dota in one sentence…It is changing slowly due to some Volvo efforts in banning and low priority…but yeah trolling spotted..
