Not to burst any bubbles but I read the best rant today and I always thought that the hobby of videogames was made famous because we wanted to get the HELL AWAY from REALITY.
I think the future fanboy wars will not be over what Hardware they have but who wants to be an Introvert against an extrovert.

By forcing persistant online connections gaming companies are not
helping you remove the stress of a digitally connected world but rather
adding to that stress. This is going to cause the industry to collapse!
E-mails, social-networks, cellphones, internet, instant messaging etc
etc etc. This is all things that drain a person on a daily basis with
the constant barrage of information being shoved in our faces
constantly. Hence why people have hobbies. Switch of cellphone and go
golfing/diving/biking/hiking/ and yes even gaming! But no, now we are
still bombarded with real world people and what they are up to! So and
so achieved this, so and so invited you to play, so and so wants to see
your profile, such and such a company are now advertising here and
spamming horrid ads. It never stops! How can gaming remain a hobby if it
doesn’t allow us to escape our digital connectivity in this very
digital age? It can’t. If this is the path it is going to take it simply
will lose steam as a hobby and become more of competitive driven scene
and let’s face it. Not everyone wants to be competitive 100% of the
time. I am doing that enough at work thanks.

I think modern gamers want to interact with each other. Not necessarily with the world at large but with each other. I don’t know about you but most of the people I follow on twitter or friend on FB are all gamers too so sharing gaming related stuff with them is not a problem. And if you use social media properly, its not very intrusive at all.
