Last weekend the very top DOTA 2 clan in the country, Energy eSports, took on Quetzal from Mexico in a fun pride match and dominated to bring home the non-existent title.

However things have now been ratcheted up a notch with the announcement that they have secured funding to send the entire DOTA 2 team to Paris to compete in the ESWC this month. The ESWC is the Electronic Sports World Cup and some of the very best teams  from around the world will be there.

The official press release is as follows:

Energy eSports is proud to announce that we will be sending the DOTA 2 team to the Electronic Sports World Cup in Paris which begins on the 31st October.

Alan Spohr, Energy eSports Marketing and PR Manager said “We are very excited and proud to be able to represent South African gaming on the international scene. We have had some great success of late with our current DOTA 2 team who won the Do Gaming Championship at rAge 2013. The team has worked extremely hard throughout the year and this event in Paris is well deserved. To be able to compete against the likes of Team Empire and Evil Geniuses on an international level is what our players have dreamt about and now we can actually make that dream come true.”

We would not have been able to send the team to Paris if it wasn’t for the funding from our sponsors, Proline, AMD, SteelSeries, Monster Energy and IS GAMING. This is a huge investment and I hope we can make you all proud.

We would also like to thank the University’s for being so understanding with the player’s exams schedules and the parents for giving their support to the players to attend such an event.

And let’s not forget about our fans and fellow gamers in the community, as without them we would not have been in the position we find ourselves today.

Energy will be fighting it out to capture a slice of the $25 000 prize money pie, but it’s got a lot more to do with pride and to show the world that we can compete than anything else.

It’s also a big moment for all other local clans as it shows that we really can organise the sponsorship and attend the big matches with the help of some local sponsors.
